Modal steady-state dynamic analysis (Abaqus)

The Steady-State Modal Dynamic analysis in the Abaqus environment calculates a system's linearized steady-state response to harmonic excitation. In a modal steady-state dynamic analysis, the response is based on modal superposition techniques.

The software first extracts the modes using the eigenfrequency extraction procedure. The modes include eigenmodes and residual modes, if activated in a eigenfrequency extraction step. The number of modes extracted must be enough to model the dynamic response of the system.

Defining frequency

Use the options in the Steady-State Modal Dynamic Step Parameters tab of the Solution Step dialog box to specify the frequency ranges of interest and the number of frequencies (points) at which results are required in each range. You also specify the bounding frequencies of the range and the type of frequency spacing to use, either linear or logarithmic.

You can select to space the frequency points for which you want results either:

  • Equally along the frequency axis on a linear or a logarithmic scale.

  • Biased toward the ends of the user-defined frequency range by specifying a bias value.

Defining base motion frequency history

Use a Base Motion - Frequency modeling object to define the motion of the nodes. You can define the motion as displacement, velocity, or acceleration history. You specify the modeling object in the Other Step Parameters tab of the Solution Step dialog box.

Loads

Loads are not supported in a Steady-State Modal Dynamic analysis.
