Create a local definition

Use this procedure when your Simulation file already contains a specialist durability solution process.

  1. Make the Simulation file the work part and the displayed part, and in the Simulation Navigator right-click the specialist durability solution process node and choose Make Active.

  2. Choose Specialist Durability tab→Specialist Solution group→Local Definition or in the Simulation Navigator, right-click the specialist durability solution process node→New Local Definition.

  3. In the Specialist Durability Local Definition dialog box, in the Analysis Setup group, specify the Analysis Template. You can choose to inherit the analysis template from the solution process. The software loads the analysis template's associated simulation objects in the durability simulation objects list.

  4. (Optional) Click Add to List to add durability simulation objects, filtered to those simulation objects specified in the analysis template, to the durability simulation objects list.Click Reset to Default if you want to reset the durability simulation objects list, as per the analysis template default settings.

  5. In the durability simulation objects list, select a simulation object that you want to define and do one of the followings:From the Object list, select a value.Click Manage Objects to open the Durability Simulation Objects dialog box and select an object. You must define all required simulation objects. The status sign indicates that a required durability simulation object value is set to none.

  6. Click Location to select specific locations on your model to include in the local definition.

  7. On the Location page, select one of the following options from the Location list:None to skip defining a location for the local definition.Select ElementIn the Select Element group, select the desired elements in one of the following ways:Select the All Model check box to select the entire model.Select the Remaining Structure check box to select the elements that are not selected in other local definitions.Select the Group Reference check box and click Group Selection to open the Group Selection dialog box to select or create one or more groups of elements.Click Select Elements to select the elements in the graphics window.Seam Weld Set Selection or Spot Weld Set SelectionIn the Seam Weld Set Selection or Spot Weld Set Selection group, select a weld set in one of the following ways:Select a weld set from the list.Click Seam/Spot Weld Set Selection to open the Set Selection dialog box, and select or create the weld sets.

  8. Click Material Definition to specify the material to include in the local definition.

  9. In the Material Definition group, do one of the following:From the Material list, select a local material. You can also choose to inherit the material from the solution process or the SIM/FEM.Click Select Material to open the Material List dialog box and select or create a new material. If you select a local material, you can plot its stress life or strain life material properties using the Plot Materials command.

  10. Click OK to close the Specialist Durability Local Definition dialog box.
