Draping global plies over the model
Use the options in the Draping Data or Multiple Ply Draping Data dialog box to define the draping data for one or multiple global plies. The draping is dependent on the following factors:
The solver that is used for calculating the effect of draping on ply orientation.
The geometry on which the ply is draped. You can select either polygon faces or 2D meshes.
The cut curves that models darts in the ply fabric. You define a cut curve by selecting either a polygon edge or contiguous element edges. A cut curve must not divide the set of selected faces completely.
The start point and draping direction.
The angular offset specified in the Layup Modeler dialog box.
The size of the draping mesh. A larger mesh size speeds up the draping process. A smaller mesh size increases the accuracy of the draping process. A finer draping mesh allows the draping solver to process parts of the geometry which contain few 2D mesh elements.
Modifying the draping data of multiple plies
You can simultaneously modify the draping data of multiple plies under one global layup. The software identifies which draping data entity differs between the selected plies and indicates this using a status icon next to the entity name in the Multiple Ply Draping Data dialog box. The software only updates the draping data entities with modified values.
Draping mesh size
A draping element is a temporary square element where one side represents the primary draping orientation.
The options in the Draping Mesh Properties group help you to control the size of the draping elements. The following options are available:
You can set the value of the element size in the Element Size box, when you select the Specify Element Size check box.
You can define the draping element size as a percentage of the average element size of the 2D mesh by moving the Percentage of Mesh Size slider.

Multithreaded draping process
To improve the draping performance for the woven and unidirectional solvers, you can enable multithreading which uses shared-memory parallelization.
Set the number of execution threads using the Number of Execution Threads for Multithreading customer default. Multithreading is enabled when the number of execution threads is greater than one.
Tip:
To find a customer default, choose File tab→Utilities→Customer Defaults, and click Find Default .
External draping data files
Set the following environment variable to store ply draping data outside of the FEM:
UGII_LAMINATE_USE_EXTERNAL_PDD = 1
The software stores ply draping data in a separate binary file for each ply. The file names follow this pattern: [ply ID].pdd. The files are stored in the [working directory]/[FEM name]_PDD folder.
When you store ply draping data outside the FEM, you reduce the amount of memory used by the software, and improve software performance. This is especially true when you have a large model that contains multiple plies with draping data, over several layups.
