Immersed boundary method unsupported features
This page lists the flow solver features that are not yet supported by the immersed boundary method.
Note:
Immersed boundary method is not supported in the Multiphysics solver environment.
Unsupported simulation objects
Flow Blockage: Porous Blockage - Isotropic and Porous Blockage - Orthotropic types
Flow Boundary Conditions: Recirculation Loop, Convective Outflow, Bursting Membrane, and Flap typesFor Internal Fans, only velocity-specified magnitude is supported.
Flow Convergence: Fluid Domain Subset type
Flow Surface: Boundary Flow Surface with Obstructions and Embedded Flow Surface with Obstructions types
Mixing Plane: all types
Moving Frame of Reference: all types
Particle Injection
Periodic Boundary Condition: all types
Report: all types
Selective Results
Supersonic Inlet
Internal Fan flow boundary condition and Screen simulation objects are not supported in models that include homogeneous gas mixtures, immiscible fluid mixtures, or turbulence models.
Unsupported loads and constraints
Thermal Loads: you cannot define the Heat Load, Heat Flux and Heat Generation types on the fluid 3D cells of the immersed boundary meshes.Note: You can define the Heat Load and Heat Flux thermal load types on: 2D and 3D solid elements in a coupled thermal-flow analysis.Null shell elements that coat immersed polygon faces in a flow only analysis. You can only define Heat Generation thermal load type on 3D solid elements in a coupled thermal-flow analysis.
Initial Conditions: all types
Mapping
Temperature
Note:
You cannot define these constraints on the fluid 3D cells of the immersed boundary meshes, but you can still define them on solid elements in a coupled thermal-flow analysis. In a flow only analysis, you can define the Temperature constraint also on null shell elements that coat immersed polygon faces.
Unsupported modeling objects
Fan Speed Controller
Immiscible Fluid Mixture
Thermostat
Other unsupported features
Multiple enclosures with separate fluid materials
Humidity modeling
Hybrid wall function
Semi-permeable interface
Rotating and translating flow surfaces
Particle tracking
Only the following turbulence models are supported: laminar flow, mixing length, standard k-ε, and SST.
