FE Model Correlation and Update > Model update and model update set solution processes

Optimization targets

When you create a Model Update solution process, the software creates one set of target frequencies and one set of target mode shapes. Each set of targets has the number of targets equal to the number of reference normal modes.

When you create a Model Update Set solution process, the software creates multiple sets of target frequencies and target mode shapes, depending on the number of Model Update solution processes in the Model Update Set. When you create Model Update Set, the targets, weights and active status are inhereted from the associated Model Update solution process.

The optimization targets are the frequencies and mode shapes of the reference normal modes. The Model Update solution first pairs target normal modes with current work solution normal modes using either:

  • The MAC method

  • The X-Ortho method

It then uses the optimization targets to optimize the design variables by minimizing the target errors.

You can access the targets from the main panel of the Simulation Navigator.

Mode Shapes [5]

When you select the Targets [#] node in the Simulation Navigator, the target frequency and the target mode shapes information is displayed in the Correlation Details View subpanel.

5 5 317.414 1.000

You can also access the same information when you select the Frequencies [#] or Mode Shapes [#] nodes under the Targets [#] node.

In the Model Update and Model Update Set solution processes, you can:

  • Activate or deactivate targets from the optimization targets in the Correlation Detail View subpanel.

  • Modify the targets' weight in the Correlation Detail View subpanel.

  • Reset the targets which activates any deactivated targets and clears all target errors.

In the Model Update solution process, you can specify overall weights for all target frequencies and all target mode shapes separately.
