Define a boundary condition using a formula field

Video: Assign a field to a boundary condition

When you use a formula field to define a boundary condition, the domains that you can select are filtered so that you can select only the domains that are appropriate for the boundary condition.

  1. In the boundary condition dialog box, from the Type list, select the boundary condition type.

  2. Select the objects on which to apply the boundary condition.

  3. Depending on the boundary condition type you select, the boundary condition dialog box will have either the Magnitude group or the Components group.Note: For some boundary conditions, when you select a component boundary condition type, the boundary condition dialog box does not contain a Components group, but does contain an equivalent, differently-named group. For example, when you select Component from the Type list, the Enforced Displacement Constraint dialog box contains the Degrees of Freedom group. If the boundary condition has the Magnitude group, click and choose Select Existing Field .If the boundary condition has the Components group, from the Magnitude list, select Field. From the Specify Field list, select Select Existing Field from List.

  4. In the Fields dialog box, select the field you want to use to define the boundary condition.

  5. Click OK to close the Fields dialog box.

  6. (Optional) Apply a scale factor to the field in one of the following ways depending on your boundary condition type:In the Magnitude group, from the Edit list, select Scale Factor. In the Field Scale Factor dialog box, type the scale factor and click OK.In the Components group, under Scale Factors, type the scale factors.

  7. Click OK.
