Distributed Acoustic Plane Waves dialog box (Simcenter Nastran/Acoustics BEM)

Name
Name Sets the name of the distributed acoustic plane waves.
Description Sets a description for the distributed acoustic plane waves.
Destination Folder
Load Container Specifies the folder in the Simulation Navigator in which to store the distributed acoustic plane waves boundary condition. The list includes the root container and folders that you created using the New Folder command in the Load Container.
Folder Manager Displays a hierarchical list of folders. To create a new folder, right-click any level of the hierarchy and choose New Folder.
Parameters
Distribution Sphere Position
Center Definition Specifies the center of the distributed acoustic plane waves.Use Bounding BoxLets the software automatically position the sphere at the center of the specified bounding box.Select PointLets you specify the center position of the sphere using a point selector.Click a point on the mesh in the graphics window, or click Point Dialog to open the Point dialog box where you can define the location of the sphere in several different ways. For more information, see Point dialog box.
Distribution Sphere Radius
Radius Definition Specifies the method for determining the radius of the sphere.
Ratio Radius / Bounding Box Diagonal Appears when Radius Definition is set to Use Bounding Box.Lets you enter a multiplying factor to the selected bounding box to define the radius.
Radius Value Appears when Radius Definition is set to Specify Radius Value.Lets you manually enter the radius value, or click Automatic Radius Value to let the software calculate the radius for you based on the default bounding box.
Bounding Box Options
Select Bounding Box Specifies the bounding box when Center Definition or Radius Definition is set to Use Bounding Box.Use Model BoundingUses the full FE model to define the bounding box.Define Bounding BoxLets you select elements from the model to specify the bounding box.
Select Bounding Box Elements Appears when Select Bounding Box is set to Define Bounding Box.Use the standard smart selection tools (elements by group, by mesh, by geometric faces, and so on) to select the bounding box in the graphics window.
Labels Appears when Select Bounding Box is set to Define Bounding Box.Select the elements by label. You can also edit the selected elements. To select an element, type a label (ID) and click Select .To edit the selected labels, click Edit Element Selection .
Distribution Sphere Options
Use Half-Sphere on +Z side Distributes half of the sphere on the +Z side.
Sphere Orientation Method Specifies the orientation of the sphere.Along VectorLets you select or create a vector.Normal to 3 PointsLets you pick three points to specify the orientation of the sphere. When you select the three points, the software uses the right hand rule to calculate the normal.
Specify Vector Appears when Sphere Orientation Method is set to Along Vector.Specifies the direction of the sphere. To reverse the direction of the vector, click Reverse Direction .
Point 1Point 2Point 3 Lets you click a point on the mesh in the graphics window, or you can click Point Dialog to open the Point dialog box where you can define the location of the sphere in several different ways. For more information, see Point dialog box.
Flip Normal Appears when Sphere Orientation Method is set to Normal to 3 Points.Reverses the normal.
Distributed Plane Waves
Refinement Level Sets the number of individual plane waves to create on the surface. For better accuracy at higher frequencies, use a greater number of plane waves (higher level of refinement). The formula to calculate the number of planes is:where:R = Refinement level.H = 1 for a half sphere, or 2 for a full sphere.
Resulting Number of Plane Waves Displays the number of plane waves.Select the Preview check box to update the value. For example, if you change the value for the refinement level, the resulting number of waves does not update until you clear the check box and then select it again.Note: When you select the Use Half-Sphere on +Z side check box in the Distribution Sphere Options group, the software selects half the number of plane waves.
Preview Displays the plane waves locations in the graphics window.
Random Sampling
Enable Random Sampling Lets you specify the number of random samples to reduce the computation time when the model has many random load cases. The solver uses less than the available input loads.
Number of Random Samples Available when the Enable Random Sampling check box is selected.Specifies the number of random samples. The number of samples you need depends on the model and loading type. It is recommended that you try your case once with different numbers, and see if the solution converges from a certain value onwards. You can then use this value for similar cases (Say out of 40 load case samples 5 are required to be computed/considered, then 5 samples will be selected randomly).
Magnitude
Type Specifies the type of magnitude.
**Strength (RMS)**Strength (Peak) Appears when Type is set to Pressure PSD (RMS) or Pressure PSD (Peak).Specifies the magnitude value in RMS or Peak format.
Specify Field Appears when Type is set to Frequency Dependent Pressure PSD or Frequency Dependent Pressure.Specifies the frequency-dependent complex field values.
Scale Factor Appears when Type is set to Frequency Dependent Pressure PSD or Frequency Dependent Pressure.Sets the scale factor to apply to the field. You can modify the magnitude of complex field values modified by changing the scale factor.
