Aero Spline dialog box

Type
Type Specifies the spline type.Surface - on Aero PanelCreates a surface spline to interpolate motion and/or forces for aerodynamic surfaces such as low aspect ratio wings.Linear - on Aero PanelCreates a linear spline to interpolate motion and/or forces for aerodynamic surfaces such as high aspect ratio wings.Linear - on Aero BodyCreates a linear spline to interpolate motion and/or forces for long slender aerodynamic bodies.
Name
Name Defines the name of the spline object.
Description Lets you enter a description for the spline object. You can use Cut , Copy , and Paste commands to copy and paste the description.
Destination Folder
Simulation Object Container Specifies the folder in the Simulation Navigator in which the spline object is stored. The list includes the root container and existing folders that you created using the New Folder command. Examples of a root container include Load Container, Constraint Container, and Simulation Object Container.
Folder Manager Displays a hierarchical listing of existing folders. To create a new folder, right-click any level of the hierarchy and choose New Folder.

The following options appear when the type is set to Surface - on Aero Panel.

First Corner (Aero Element)
Select Object Lets you select the aero panel that defines one corner of the region over which the spline is interpolated.
Second Corner (Aero Element)
Select Object Lets you select the aero panel that defines the opposing corner of the region over which the spline is interpolated. For example, suppose that for the airfoil shown below, for the first corner, you select aero panel 115. For the second corner, you select aero panel 122. The spline is interpolated over all of the aero panels that are shaded.
Structural Nodes
Group Reference Lets you use a group to specify the structural nodes to which the spline is attached. For more information, see Group Reference options.
Select Object Lets you select the structural nodes to which the spline is attached.
Stacked Smart Selector Methods Opens the Smart Selector Methods dialog box where you can specify a progression of smart selection filters. For more information, see Smart Selector Methods dialog box.
Parameters
Linear Attachment Flexibility Lets you specify the flexibility of the spline to conform to the structural nodes. To force the spline to pass through the structural nodes, set the value to zero. To force a least squares plane fit of the spline to the structural nodes, set the value to the area of the spline or greater. Values between these extremes provide intermediate degrees of smoothing.
Spline Fit Method Lets you select the spline fitting method.Infinite Plate SplineUse the Harder-Desmarais infinite plate spline.Thin Plate SplineUse the thin plate spline.Finite Plate SplineUse the finite plate spline.
Spline Usage Flag Lets you select whether to apply the spline to the force transformation, displacement transformation, or both.ForcesApplies the spline to the force transformation only.DisplacementsApplies the spline to the displacement transformation only.Forces and DisplacementsApplies the spline to the force and displacement transformations.
Number of Elements along X-Axis Appears when Spline Fit Method is set to Finite Plate Spline.Lets you specify the number of elements along the X-axis of the spline.
Number of Elements along Y-Axis Appears when Spline Fit Method is set to Finite Plate Spline.Lets you specify the number of elements along the Y-axis of the spline.

The following options appear when the type is set to Linear - on Aero Panel.

First Corner (Aero Element)
Select Object Lets you select the aero panel that defines one end of the region over which the spline is interpolated.
Second Corner (Aero Element)
Select Object Lets you select the aero panel that defines the other end of the region over which the spline is interpolated.
Spline Axis (Defined by Y Axis of CSYS)
Specify CSYS Specifies the coordinate system whose Y-axis defines the axis of the spline.GlobalUse the global (absolute) coordinate system.CartesianUse a local coordinate system.
Local CSYS Appears when Specify CSYS is set to Cartesian.Lets you create or select a local coordinate system.
Parameters
Linear Attachment Flexibility Lets you specify the flexibility of the spline to conform to the structural nodes. To force the spline to pass through the structural nodes, set the value to zero.
Torsional Flexibility Ratio Lets you specify the ratio of bending stiffness (EI) to torsional stiffness (GJ).
In-plane Bending - Rotational Attachment Flexibility Lets you specify the rotational attachment flexibility of the spline about the X-axis of the spline.
Torsion - Rotational Attachment Flexibility Lets you specify the rotational attachment flexibility of the spline about the Y-axis of the spline.

The following options appear when the type is set to Linear - on Aero Body.

First Aero Element
Select Object Lets you select the first body element whose motion is interpolated by the spline.
Second Aero Element
Select Object Lets you select the last body element whose motion is interpolated by the spline.
Structural Nodes
