Computing draped fiber orientation and flat patterns
Draped ply fiber orientation is the software-calculated fiber orientation on each element as the fabric conforms to the curvature and/or angles of the face(s) of the mold.
A flat pattern is the 2D shape that would result if you removed a given ply from the mold and flattened it.
When you use the Update Global Layups and Zones command, the software computes the draped fiber orientation and the flat pattern shape of a ply based on model geometry and the data you enter in the Layup Modeler and Draping Data dialog boxes.
When you export the layup to a physical property, or use the advanced post reporting commands, the software performs the same update automatically.
Draped fiber orientation and flat pattern
The following factors determine the draped fiber orientation and the shape of the flat pattern:
The direction you define for the reference ply at the Start Point in the Draping Data dialog box.
The rotation you define as a ply orientation offset Angle in the Layup Modeler dialog box.
The geometry of the mold.
Any Cut Curves you define.
Viewing
You can use the View Fiber Orientation command to display draped fiber orientation for each element as short line on the surface of the element.
You can use the View flat patterns command to display or export the outline of the flat pattern of one or more plies.
Prerequisites
Before you compute draping and flat patterns, you must specify the draping options in the Draping Data dialog box for the ply or plies you want to process. The status Update Pending then appears in the Status column for that ply in the global ply table in the Layup Modeler dialog box.
