Notch stress methods
Local stress-based approaches, like the RxMS and the Specialist Durability seam weld method, are the tool of choice for the analysis of seam welds in more complex structures. Both approaches provide accurate results for both thin as thick sheets. In order to apply a local stress based method a numerical model of the metal sheets and the detailed description of the geometry of the weld is required. To obtain such a model finite element analysis is used to model a seam weld model using solid elements in a very fine mesh. [1]
