Create a new idealized part file

You can create a new idealized part file by itself, without creating the corresponding FEM and Simulation files. This can be useful when:

  • You are a designer, and you want to use the idealization tools (such as Midsurface or Split Body) to modify part geometry.

  • You are a designer using Teamcenter Integration, and you want to create modifiable, associative geometry for the use of an analyst.

  • You are an analyst working with geometry, and you want to modify read-only geometry to export for use in third-party pre- and post-processing tools.

When you use the New Idealized Part command in Pre/Post, associativity is maintained with the master part. If you are using Teamcenter Integration, you can be notified when the master part geometry is updated, and you can reload and update your idealized part geometry accordingly.

  1. In the Simulation Navigator, right-click the master part file and choose New Idealized Part.

  2. In the Idealized Part Name dialog box, enter the folder and file name for the new idealized part.By default, the idealized part file name is filename_i.prt, where filename is the original name of the part file.

  3. Click OK to create the idealized part file.
