Ellipsoid Primitive dialog box (SST)

Common options

Option Description
Element Type Lists the supported 2D element types.
Destination Collector
Mesh Collector Lets you select an existing collector. Click New Collector to use the Mesh Collector dialog box to create additional mesh collectors. See Mesh collectors for more information.
Definition
By Controls the definition method:Parameters: Lets you define the ellipsoid by assigning values to parameters in relation to a coordinate system that you specify.Points: Lets you define the ellipsoid by locating points in space in terms of 3D coordinates.
Mesh Density
Along Circumference Defines the number of elements along the circumferential surface of the paraboloid defined by the Start Angle and End Angle. At the end of each traversal between the circumferential limits, the element sequence continues at the Start Angle in the next layer up.
Along Height Defines the number of elements along the vertical height of the paraboloid. The number of elements defines the number of layers in the mesh.
Top side faces inward Select the check box to reverse the direction of the surface normals of the 2D elements so that they point inward.

Ellipsoid primitive defined by parameters

Option Description
Definition
Coordinate System Lets you create or select a coordinate system. The software uses the origin of the coordinate system as the origin of the primitive.See CSYS dialog box for more information.
Semi major axis A - X Defines the semi major axis of the elliptical section on the X-Y plane as a distance from the origin along the X-axis (equatorial radius).Note: This elliptical section is always parallel to the X-Y plane.
Semi major axis B - Y Defines the semi minor axis of the elliptical section on the X-Y plane as a distance from the origin along the Y-axis (equatorial radius).
Semi major axis C - Z Defines the semi minor axis of the elliptical section as a distance from the origin along the Z-axis (polar radius).Note: This semi major axis is useful to signify the revolution of the elliptical section about the X-axis.
Minimum Height Defines a distance from the origin along the Z-axis to truncate the ellipsoid. The ellipsoid section from the origin to this height is cut away. Note: The value for Minimum Height must always be less than the value for Maximum Height.
Maximum Height Defines the distance from the origin along the Z-axis at which to truncate the ellipsoid. The ellipsoid section from the Maximum Height to the Semi major axis C - Z is cut away.Note: The value for Maximum Height should not be greater than the value for Semi major axis C - Z.
Start Angle / End Angle Defines a circumferential segment of the ellipsoid body measured from the X-axis. The segment of the ellipsoid from the Start Angle to the End Angle defines the circumferential limits of the primitive.Note: The value for Start Angle must always be less than the value forEnd Angle.

Ellipsoid primitive defined by points

Option Description
Definition
Center Lets you select or create a point to define as the center of the ellipsoid.Click Point Constructor to use the Point dialog box to create a new point. See Point dialog box for more information.
Semi major axis A - X Lets you select or create a point to define the semi major axis of the elliptical section as a distance from the Center for the ellipsoid. This equatorial radius is assumed to be along the X-axis which is also the axis of revolution of the ellipsoid.
Semi major axis B - Y Lets you select or create a point to define the semi minor axis of the elliptical section as a distance from the Center. This equatorial radius is assumed to be along the Y-axis of the ellipsoid.
Semi major axis C - Z Lets you select or create a point to define the semi minor axis of the revolved elliptical section as a distance from the Center. This polar radius is assumed to be along the Z-axis of the ellipsoid.
Truncate start circumference Lets you define a circumferential start limit (greater than 0°) for the ellipsoid primitive.
Circumference position to start at Appears only if Truncate start circumference is selected.Lets you select or create a point to define the Circumference position to start at.
Truncate end circumference Lets you define a circumferential end limit (less than 360°) for the ellipsoid primitive.
Circumference position to end at Appears only if Truncate end circumference is selected.Lets you select or create a point to define the Circumference position to end at.Note: The position you specify for Circumference position to end at must always be greater than the position you specify for Circumference position to start at always
Truncate bottom height Lets you define a lower limit for the ellipsoid primitive in relation to its designated X-Y plane. The ellipsoid section from the Center to this height is cut away.
Bottom height to truncate at Appears only if Truncate along Circumference is selected.Lets you select or create a point to define the Bottom height to truncate at.
Truncate top height Lets you define an upper limit for the ellipsoid primitive in relation to its designated X-Y plane. The ellipsoid section from the Semi major axis C - Z to this height is cut away.
Top height to truncate at Appears only if Truncate top height is selected.Lets you select or create a point to define the Top height to truncate at.Note: The position you specify for Top height to truncate at must always be between the position you specify for Bottom height to truncate at and the position you specify Semi major axis C - Z.
