Synchronizing polygon body names and attributes to the CAD geometry

Use the Synchronize to CAD Properties command in the Simulation Navigator to synchronize the names of bodies and attributes defined in a part file to the corresponding polygon geometry. For example, you can use this command to rename selected polygon bodies to be consistent with the names of the corresponding bodies in the associated CAD part, which is typically the idealized part file.

Note:

You can only use the Synchronize to CAD Properties command when the CAD part that is associated with your FEM file is loaded into your current session of Simcenter 3D. To load the CAD part, right-click the part in the Simulation Navigator and click Load.

For more information on part relationships, see Associative and non-associative FEM files.

Limitations

You cannot use the Synchronize to CAD Properties command to rename the following:

  • A polygon surface wrap body. You synchronize surface wrap bodies using the Synchronize Face Names and Attributes command.

  • A polygon body that is created from 2D elements or from 3D element free faces using the Face from Mesh command.

Inheriting names and properties in an assembly FEM

How the software propagates CAD properties, including names, to bodies in an assembly FEM depends on whether the assembly FEM has an associated idealized part:

  • If you create an idealized part when you create the assembly FEM, the idealized part inherits properties from the original corresponding CAD part (sometimes called the prototype part) and not from the occurrence of the part in the CAD assembly. As a result, polygon bodies in the assembly also inherit properties from the idealized part.Note: You can synchronize CAD subassembly attribute properties to the idealized part. With the idealized part displayed, use the Synchronize Subassembly Properites option on the Assembly tab in the Component Properties dialog box to synchronize subassembly attribute properties.

  • If you do not create an idealized part when you create an assembly FEM, the polygon bodies in the assembly FEM file inherit properties from the occurrence of the corresponding CAD part in the CAD assembly.

For assembly FEMs, you can use the Assign Assembly Component Names for Body Names customer default to have the software assign the name and properties from the CAD bodies to the corresponding polygon geometry.
