Smart Selector Options dialog box

The options displayed in the Smart Selector Options dialog box vary depending on the specified selection method.

Select Only Visible Entities Applies the current selection method only to entities displayed in the graphics window.
Attached Elements method
Limit Iterations Limits the number of iterations the software performs when searching for connected elements to select. For each iteration, the software selects all elements connected to the target by the specified Attached By criteria. The selected elements are then used as the search target during the next iteration.Clear the check box to have the software perform a maximum number of iterations such that all continuously connected elements within your model are selected.
Number of Iterations Sets the number of search iterations that the software performs to select elements connected to the specified target.
Attached By Specifies how the elements to select are connected:NodeSelects elements that are connected to the target by nodes.EdgeSelects elements that are connected to the target by edges.FaceSelects elements that are connected to the target by faces.
Circular Edges or Hole Element Edges method
Minimum Radius Sets the minimum radius to consider when selecting circular edges.
Maximum Radius Sets the maximum radius to consider when selecting circular edges.
Select Only Hole Edges Appears when Method is set to Circular Edges.Lets you select circular edges only when those edges define a hole.
Allow Non-Circular Holes Appears when Method is set to Hole Element Edges.Lets you select both circular and non-circular holes.
Connected Edges, Connected Element Edges, 2D Elements Enclosed by Path, Elements Enclosed by Path, Element Faces Enclosed by Path, Nodes Along Path, or Path Edges method
Loop direction Appears when Method is set to 2D Elements Enclosed by Path, Element Faces Enclosed by Path, or Nodes Enclosed by Path.Lets you specify the direction of the path you are defining to enclose objects.
Prefer Free Edges Prefer Free Element Edges Lets you select free polygon or element edges. A free polygon edge or free element edge is an edge that is connected to a single element.
Prefer Geometry Associated Element Edges Appears when Method is set to Connected Element EdgesLets you select element edges associated with geometry.
Prefer Feature Element Edges Appears when Method is set to Connected Element EdgesLets you select feature element edges.Element edges are the edges shared between adjacent element faces where the difference between the normal vectors on the faces exceeds the Feature Angle Tolerance value. If the free element edge you select is one of these edges, the software identifies adjacent feature element edges whose tangency condition is less than the feature angle.
Feature Angle Tolerance Appears when Method is set to Connected Element EdgesSets the maximum angle between two adjacent edges or faces, below which they are considered part of the same feature.
Jump Edge Gaps Jump Element Edge Gaps Lets you select polygon edges or element edges separated by a gap.
Edge Gap Tolerance****Element Edge Gap Tolerance Sets the maximum distance between two polygon edges or element edges.
Method Appears when Method is set to Connected Element EdgesControls the method that the software uses to find the connected element edges.Select Shortest Path to have the software select the path that minimizes the distance between the element edges that you select.Select Most Tangent Path to have the software select the path that minimizes the edge angle between the element edges that you select. This path is the most tangent continuous path.
Tangent Angle Tolerance Appears when Method is set to Most Tangent PathLets you specify the tolerance angle in degrees between two element edges. The software uses this value to determine whether to include an element edge in the path. If the software cannot find an element edge with an angle lower than this value, the software ends the path.
Feature Angle Nodes, Feature Edge Nodes, Feature Angle Elements, Feature Element Edges, Feature Angle Element Faces, Ordered Feature Edge Elements, or Ordered Feature Edge Nodes method
Element Edges Appears when Method is set to Feature Element Edges.Specifies the type of elements to select:AllSelects all elements that meet the other selection criteria.Only FeatureSelects only adjacent element edges whose feature angle (the dihedral angle between them) is greater than the Feature Angle Threshold value specified in the Customer Defaults dialog box.FreeSelects elements with free edges that meet the other selection criteria.Non-ManifoldSelects elements that lie along a non-manifold boundary (such as a single edge shared by two or more faces) and meet the other selection criteria.Free and Non-ManifoldSelects element edges that are free and edges that are non-manifold (shared by more than two elements).
Feature Angle Tolerance Sets the maximum angle between two adjacent edges or faces, below which they are considered part of the same feature.
Free Face Computation****Feature Edge Computation Free Face Computation appears when Method is set to Feature Angle Nodes, Feature Angle Elements, or Feature Angle Element Faces. Feature Edge Computation appears when Method is set to Feature Edge Nodes, Feature Element Edges, Ordered Feature Edge Elements, or Ordered Feature Edge Nodes.Select from the following:Whole ModelSelects all external elements or element faces that meet the other selection criteria.Visible ModelSelects all visible elements or element faces, external or internal, that meet the other selection criteria.Tip: To select internal element faces, such as elements on non-manifold faces joined by a glue-coincident mesh mating condition, use the visibility controls to display the internal element faces you want to select by hiding meshes or displaying groups as appropriate.
Stop at Non-manifold Junctions Stops the selection of nodes or elements at a non-manifold boundary, such as a single edge shared by two or more faces in a T-type intersection. If you clear this check box, the selection extends beyond the non-manifold boundary along the most tangent edge or face.
Cylinder Faces method
Cylinder Minimum Radius Sets the minimum radius to consider when selecting cylinder faces on polygon bodies.
Cylinder Maximum Radius Sets the maximum radius to consider when selecting cylinder faces on polygon bodies.
Cylinder Minimum Angle Sets the minimum angle to consider when selecting cylinder faces on polygon bodies.
Cylinder Maximum Angle Sets the maximum angle to consider when selecting cylinder faces on polygon bodies.
Fillet Faces method
Fillet Minimum Radius Sets the minimum radius to consider when selecting fillet faces on polygon bodies.
Fillet Maximum Radius Sets the maximum radius to consider when selecting fillet faces on polygon bodies.
Fillet Minimum Angle Sets the minimum angle to consider when selecting fillet faces on polygon bodies.
Fillet Maximum Angle Sets the maximum angle to consider when selecting fillet faces on polygon bodies.
Fillet Option Select from the following:All TypesInside RadiusOutside Radius
Related Element Faces method
Element Face Preference Specifies the type of related element faces to select.2D If Present Else 3DSelects 2D related element faces if they are present. If none exist, then 3D related element faces are selected.3D If Present Else 2DSelects 3D related element faces if they are present. If none exist, then 2D related element faces are selected.2D OnlySelects only 2D related element faces.3D OnlySelects only 3D related element faces.Free FacesSelects 2D or 3D related free element faces.2D If Present Else 3D and 3D If Present Else 2D are particularly relevant when the selected entity has both 2D and 3D element faces (for example, when the polygon body has a 3D mesh and one of its faces has a 2D surface coat mesh).
Free Face Computation Specifies how free element faces are selected.Whole ModelSelects all external element faces that meet the other selection criteria.Visible ModelSelects all visible element faces, external or internal, that meet the other selection criteria.Tip: To select internal element faces, such as elements on non-manifold faces joined by a glue-coincident mesh mating condition, use the visibility controls to display the internal element faces you want to select by hiding meshes or displaying groups as appropriate.
Node Selection Specifies how element faces are selected based on the nodes connected to each face.Any NodeSelects all element faces that are connected to any nodes that are specified by other selection criteria. For example, if you select node 38 (as indicated by the arrow below), all related element faces that are connected to that node are selected. All NodesSelects only those element faces that are connected to all nodes that are specified by other selection criteria. For example, if you select nodes 37, 38, and 56, only the related element face that uses all three of those nodes is selected.
Sliver Faces method
Sliver Tolerance Sets the maximum width (W) to consider when selecting sliver faces on polygon bodies.
Tangent Faces or Tangent Continuous Edges method
Tangent Angle Tolerance Sets the maximum angle between two adjacent faces or edges, below which they are considered tangent.
Stop at Non-manifold Junctions Appears when Method is set to Tangent Faces.Stops the selection of tangent faces at a non-manifold boundary, such as a single edge shared by two or more faces in a T-type intersection. If you clear this check box, the selection extends beyond the non-manifold boundary along the most tangent face.
