Laminate Ply Material dialog box — Woven type

Option Description
Name Specifies a name for the laminate ply material.
Label Specifies a label for the laminate ply material.
Basic Information
Matrix Material Sets the material for the matrix.
Matrix Volume Fraction Specifies a value for the volume fraction of the matrix in the ply material. The sum of the values of the Matrix Volume Fraction and the Fiber Volume Fraction must be less than or equal to one.
Warp Fiber Material Sets the material for the warp fibers.
Weft Fiber Material Sets the material for the weft fibers.
Fiber Volume Fraction Specifies a value for the volume fraction of all the fibers in the ply material. The sum of the values of the Matrix Volume Fraction and the Fiber Volume Fraction must be less than or equal to one.
Balance Coefficient Specifies the amount of fibers that run in the warp direction compared to the amount that run in the weft direction.
Finished Thickness Specifies the thickness of the woven ply material. It is used as the thickness for the ply that references this ply material in the Laminate Modeler or Laminate Layup dialog boxes.
Ply Color Sets the ply color. Enter the color ID which is an integer between 1 and 216. You can see the color IDs in the Color dialog box.
Ply Failure Theory Specifies the ply failure theory that the software uses. For more information, see Laminates failure analysis.
Interlaminar Failure Theory Specifies the interlaminar failure theory. For more information, see Laminates failure analysis.
Lock Angle Specifies the maximum allowable shear angle. The shear angle is the difference between the original yarn angle and the distorted yarn angle. You can change the default lock angle value with the Lock Angle customer default.
Draping Path Specifies how the primary direction is defined.GeodesicDefines the primary and secondary draping directions using the vector you select in the Draping Data dialog box.Seed CurveDefines the primary draping direction using the seed curve you define in the Draping Data dialog box.
Zone Angle Tolerance Sets the change in yarn angle that the software uses to determine the anisotropic properties of the ply and the zones from which the ply properties are computed. The smaller the angle, the more properties are computed and the more zones are created. For more information, see Creating zones.
Improved Woven Model
Account for Woven Fiber Shear Activates the improved woven model for those global plies that point to this ply material and have the draping solver set to Woven. With the improved woven model, the software calculates the equivalent ply anisotropic properties.
Nominal Yarn Angle Appears when you select the Account for Woven Fiber Shear check box.Specifies the original yarn angle, before draping. The yarn angle is the angle between the warp and weft fibers.
Tsai-Wu
Tsai Wu Interaction Specifies the value for the Tsai Wu interaction coefficient used in the Tsai Wu failure theory. See Tsai-Wu failure analysis (2D) for more information.

Stress tab

Properties
Strength Controls how the stress properties of the ply material are defined.User defined lets you define the stress properties.Calculated calculates the stress properties using the micromechanics equations.
