Samcef environment > Solving a Samcef solution
Parallel processing (Simcenter Samcef)
To take advantage of multiprocessor capabilities in computers, Simcenter Samcef supports parallel processing. Based on Message Passing Interface (MPI), you can use this version of Simcenter Samcef on Unix and Windows operating systems with shared memory architecture.
Note:
The version of Simcenter Samcef that is available with this software does not support parallel processing in a distributed architecture (remote mode).
Use the Simcenter Samcef Solver Parameters to define parameters for Samcef parallel processing:
In the Parallel group, you can select options for the Distributed Memory Parallel computation (DMP).
In the Multithreading group, you can select options for the Shared Memory Parallel computation (SMP).
When you use Simcenter Samcef in parallel mode, we recommend that the product of the Nb. Processors value by the Nb. Threads value always stay below the number of logical processors available on your machine.
In Windows, you can find the number of logical processors available on your machine in the Windows System Information panel.
You can check that the parallel mode is enabled by browsing the Simcenter Samcef .res solver output file and looking for the following information:
MUMPS version1.7.1. ESTIMATION OF THE SYSTEM SIZE (MUMPS) -------------------------------------------- MUMPS VERSION USED 5.0.1
Number of processors used3.4.1. SOLVER DESCRIPTION -------------------------------------------- NUMBER OF PROCESSES USED BY MUMPS..................NPROC = 2
Number of threads used# of mkl threads : 2
For more information, see Running Samcef in parallel in the Simcenter Samcef documentation.
