Define a force or moment load normal to the model

The Normal type lets you define a force or moment load with a magnitude and a +/– direction normal to the selected geometry or element faces.

  1. Choose Home tab→Loads and Conditions group→Force or Home tab→Loads and Conditions group→Moment .

  2. In the Force or Moment dialog box, select Normal from the Type list.

  3. In the Model Objects group, click Select Object and select the geometry or FE entity to which the force or moment will be applied.

  4. In the Magnitude group, define the force magnitude by entering a constant value or by using an expression or field. For more information, see Expressions. For more information, see Using fields and expressions to define boundary conditions.

  5. (Optional) In the Distribution group, choose the method for distributing the force or moment over the geometry or FE entities:Total Per Object applies the magnitude to each selected item. Geometric Distribution distributes the total force or moment over all the selected items based on the area. All the nodes on the selected items then get a fraction of the force or moment based on the area of the associated elements. Spatial uses a unitless field to map the force or moment to the nodes. For more information, see Using fields and expressions to define boundary conditions.

  6. (Optional) For Abaqus analyses, in the Follower Force Option group, select the Follower check box to specify that the direction of the force should rotate with the node to which you apply it.

  7. Click OK.The load is applied to the model.
