Filter the list of materials using a standard filter

You can apply standard filters to control the display of material records in the materials dialog boxes. The standard filters let you filter by Name, Material Type, and Material Category. When only one filter is applied, the search returns records that contain any of the specified criteria within the filter. For example, if you filter the list for materials that have a Name starting with A or B, then the search returns records that begin with either A or B.

When more than one standard or custom filter is applied, the search returns only records that meet all combined rule criteria within the filters.

To illustrate the procedure, the following steps use an example that displays all plastic isotropic materials that start with the letter P.

  1. Open the Assign Material, Manage Materials, or Material Library Manager dialog box.

  2. In the material list, right-click any column heading (as shown in 1 in the following graphic) and select NameNone (Remove All). All records are filtered out and the list is now empty.

  3. In the material list, right-click any column heading again and select Material TypeNone (Remove All).

  4. In the material list, right-click any column heading again and select Material CategoryNone (Remove All).

  5. In the material list, right-click any column heading again and select NameP*.No records are displayed yet.

  6. In the material list, right-click any column heading again and select Material TypeIsotropic. No records are displayed yet.

  7. In the material list, right-click any column heading again and select Material CategoryPLASTIC.Only records that have a Name starting with P, Category of PLASTIC, and Type of Isotropic are displayed.

  8. To remove any of the above filters, right-click any column heading, select the filter to remove and choose All (No Filter).

You can also combine these standard filters with custom filters. For steps, see Filter the list of materials using a custom filter.
