Tie Surface dialog box (Abaqus)
| Type | |
|---|---|
| Type | Specifies the face pair creation method to use to identify the surfaces to tie together.Automatic PairingCreates face pairs automatically using the Create Automatic Face Pairs dialog box.ManualLets you create face pairs manually by selecting a Master Surface and a Slave Surface.Manual with TIED NSETLets you specify a group that contains the nodes from the slave surface that you want to tie to the master surface. Any nodes that are not included in this group are not tied during the analysis. This allows you to constrain the slave nodes regardless of their distance to the master surface. |
| Destination Folder | |
| Simulation Object Container | Specifies the folder in the Simulation Navigator in which the boundary condition will be stored. The list includes the root container and existing folders that you created using the New Folder command. Examples of a root container include Load Container, Constraint Container, and Simulation Object Container. |
| Folder Manager | Displays a hierarchical listing of existing folders. To create a new folder, right-click any level of the hierarchy and choose New Folder. |
| Tied Node Set | |
| Group Reference | Appears when the type is set to Manual with TIED NSET.Lets you select the group that contains the nodes from the slave surface that you want to tie to the master surface. For more information, see Group Reference options. |
| Automatic Face Pair Creation | |
| Create Face Pairs | Appears when the type is set to Automatic Pairing.Opens the Create Automatic Face Pairs dialog box, which enables you to specify face pair generation properties, preview face pairs, and generate face pairs automatically. |
| Master Surface/Slave Surface | |
| Master Surface/Slave Surface | Available when the type is set to Manual or Manual with TIED NSET.Lets you select the Region that defines the master and slave surfaces in the tie definition. With a Tie Constraint, you can use either an element-based or node-based surface definition to define the region.Select an existing region or click New Region to create a new region. See the Region dialog box. |
| Options | |
| Tie Formulation | Controls the tie formulation that Abaqus uses to constrain the surfaces.Select Surface to Surface to use the surface-to-surface based formulation.Select Node to Surface to use the node-to-surface formulation. See Mesh tie constraints in the Abaqus Analysis User's Guide for more information. |
| Adjust Slave Nodes | Controls whether Abaqus automatically repositions the nodes on the slave surface to be tied in the initial configuration.Select Default to have the software determine the appropriate setting for this option. For example, if either the master or the slave surface is meshed with 1D elements, No is the default. For most other cases, Yes is the default.Select Yes to move all tied nodes on the slave surface onto the master surface in the initial configuration, without any strain.Select No not to move any slave nodes. |
| No Thickness | Controls whether shell thickness effects are included in calculations. If you select No Thickness, the software does not include shell thickness effects when it calculates the position tolerances. If you clear No Thickness, the software includes shell thickness effects when it calculates the position tolerance. |
| No Rotation | Controls whether the software constrains (ties) the rotational degrees-of-freedom between the master and slave surfaces. If you select No Rotation, the software does not tie the rotational degrees-of-freedom.If you clear No Rotation, the software ties the rotational degrees-of-freedom and the translational degrees-of-freedom. |
| Position Tolerance | Available when the Type is set to Automatic Pairing or Manual.Lets you specify the cutoff distance the software uses to determine the constrained nodes based on the distance between the slave nodes and the master surface. |
| Boundary Condition Generation | |
| Associate to Automatic Pair Recipe | Appears when the type is set to Automatic Pairing.Specifies whether automatically generated face pairs are associated with the automatic pair recipe. The automatic pair recipe is the set of parameters on the Create Automatic Face Pairs dialog box that determine how to compute and group face pairs. When this option is selected, the generated pairs appear in the Simulation Navigator with the prefix Auto. If the master part updates, the software recalculates the face pairs and updates the boundary condition. When this option is cleared, the generated contact pairs are not associated with the face pair recipe. If the master part updates, the software does not update the contact pairs. These contact pairs behave the same as manually created pairs. |
