Temperature dependency for thermal and electrical couplings

You can specify which temperature is used to evaluate the magnitude of thermal coupling and other coupling simulation objects when you enter a temperature-varying function in the magnitude expression. You define a temperature dependency in table fields, formula fields, 4D fields, or table of fields.

Average Temperature

Uses the average elemental temperature of the primary region (1) and the secondary region (2) to evaluate the magnitude.

MAG = f((T1+T2)/2)

Primary Temperature

Uses the elemental temperature of the primary region (1) to evaluate the magnitude.

MAG = f(T1)

If you define the magnitude using solve time evaluated functions in the form of an expression, the thermal solver always uses the average temperature, irrespective of the temperature dependency you defined.

Supported boundary conditions

The thermal solver supports the specification of which temperature to use in the following simulation objects:

  • Edge to Edge Contact

  • Edge to Edge Gluing

  • Joule Heating of type Electrical Coupling

  • Peltier Cooler

  • Surface-to-Surface Contact

  • Surface-to-Surface Gluing

  • Thermal Coupling

  • Thermal Coupling - Advanced of type 1 Way
