Mass Scaling dialog box (Abaqus)
| Modeling Object | |
|---|---|
| Name | Sets the name of the modeling object. |
| Label | Specifies a unique numerical identifier for the modeling object. |
| Properties | |
| Type | Specifies the type of mass scaling. You can apply the two types of mass scaling separately or together to define an overall mass scaling strategy. You can also apply the mass scaling globally to the entire model or an element set.FixedModifies the mass properties of a quasi-static model or a set of elements at the beginning of an analysis so they do not control the stable time increment size. Because the scaling operation is performed once at the beginning of the step, fixed mass scaling is computationally efficient. This option corresponds to the *FIXED MASS SCALING keyword.VariableScales the mass of elements at the beginning of a step and periodically during that step. You define a minimum stable time increment and the solver automatically calculates and applies the mass scaling factors, as required, throughout the step. This option corresponds to the *VARIABLE MASS SCALING keyword. If you specify both variable and fixed mass scaling in a step, the software uses the fixed mass scaling to scale the original mass of the elements once at beginning of the step. It then uses the variable mass scaling to further scale the elements at the beginning and periodically during the step. |
| Scale Factor | Appears when Type is set to Fixed.Sets the mass scaling factor with which the software scales the masses of the elements once at the beginning of the step. If you omit this value, the software uses a value of 1.0. This option corresponds to the FACTOR parameter of the *FIXED MASS SCALING keyword. |
| Define Stable Time Increment | Uses the element stable time increment to define the mass scaling definition. The software uses this parameter and the Type option to define the mass scaling. |
| Time Increment | Appears when the Define Stable Time Increment check box is selected.Specifies the element stable time increment for the selected element set. This option corresponds to the DT parameter of the *FIXED MASS SCALING or *VARIABLE MASS SCALING keyword. |
| Mass Scaling Method | Appears when the Define Stable Time Increment check box is selected.Specifies the mass scaling method.Below MinimumScales the masses of only the elements whose element stable time increments are less than the value you specified for Time Increment. The software scales the masses of these elements so that the element stable time increments equals the scale factor value. UniformScales the masses of the elements equally so the smallest element stable time increment of the scaled elements equals the value you specified for Time Increment. Equal Element Stable Time Increments Scales the masses of all elements so they have the same element stable time increment equal to the value you specified for Time Increment. |
| Calculation Method | Appears when Type is set to Variable.Specifies the calculation method.Equally Spaced IncrementsSets the frequency in increments at which mass scaling calculations are to be performed during the step.Equally Spaced Time IntervalsSets the number of intervals during the step at which mass scaling calculations are to be performed. |
| Frequency in Increments | Appears when Calculation Method is set to Equally Spaced Increments. Specifies the frequency in increments at which mass scaling calculations are to be performed during the step. |
| Number of Intervals | Appears when Calculation Method is set to Equally Spaced Time Intervals.Specifies the number of intervals during the step at which mass scaling calculations are to be performed. |
| Element Selection Method | Specifies the elements on which to apply the mass scaling. Entire ModelApplies the mass scaling to all elements in the model. Specified ElementsApplies the mass scaling to a group of elements. |
| Group Reference | Appears when Element Selection Method is set to Specified Elements.Lets you specify a group of elements on which to apply the mass scaling. For more information, see Group Reference options. |
| Select Object | Appears when Element Selection Method is set to Specified Elements.Lets you select the elements on which to apply the mass scaling. |
