Idealized part file

An idealized part file is a special assembly file used only with associative FEM files.

The master part is a component of the idealized part. You must promote or WAVE-link the idealized part before you can modify its geometry using the idealization commands. All modifications are stored with the idealized part file, and the original master model geometry is unaltered.

You can use either the idealization commands or Synchronous Modeling commands to modify the idealized part.

Create an idealized part file when:

  • You do not have write access to the master part file.

  • You work in a concurrent-engineering environment and you want to capture the latest changes to part geometry and update your FEM accordingly.

  • You work in a managed environment, such as Teamcenter Integration.

  • You want to preserve the original, unaltered geometry when geometry requires significant idealization.

A single CAD part can be used as a component of multiple idealized part files. In this way, you can perform different idealizations for different analysis types while retaining the original geometry unaltered.

Three idealized files for one master part. From left to right: Split into sweepable bodies, a midsurface for shell meshing, and with added points and curves for beam meshing.

Note:

The master part is write-locked if interpart expressions are used in the idealized part. This occurs only when master model dimensions are changed either directly using the Master Model Dimension command, or indirectly via Optimization. In most cases the master part will not be changed and will not be write-locked at all. The write lock can be removed to allow a new design to be saved to the master part. To remove the write lock, in the Simulation Navigator, right-click the master part and select Remove Write Lock. Note that all changes due to feature removal are applied to the idealized part.
