Manage Mesh Collectors

Mesh collectors in the Simulation Navigator

In the Simulation Navigator, all mesh collectors of the same element family are grouped in a mesh collector group node.

Collectors grouped by element family in the Simulation Navigator

Mesh collectors are listed by name under each mesh collector group, and individual meshes are listed under their corresponding mesh collectors. You can manage meshes and mesh collectors by interacting with the mesh collector groups, mesh collectors, and meshes listed in the Simulation Navigator.

Controlling mesh visibility

You can control the visibility of meshes in your model in three ways:

  • Click the visibility check box for a mesh collector group node to show or hide all meshes of the same family.

  • Click the visibility check box for a mesh collector node to show or hide all meshed contained by that mesh collector.

  • Click the visibility check box for an individual mesh node to show or hide only that mesh.

Alternatively, select a mesh collector or a mesh in the Simulation Navigator and click Show Only . Only the selected mesh or the meshes in the selected collector are displayed. All other objects in the display are hidden.

Controlling mesh collector display properties

To assign specific display properties to a mesh collector, with the FEM file displayed, right-click on a mesh collector in the Simulation Navigator and choose Mesh Collector Display Properties. Use the Mesh Display dialog box to define the display properties for the mesh collector. Any meshes you assign to this collector automatically inherit these display properties.

Reassigning a mesh to a different collector

You can reassign a mesh to a mesh collector other than its destination collector. In the Simulation Navigator, drag the mesh to another mesh collector of the same element family and type. The mesh immediately inherits the physical, material, and display properties of the target collector.

Reassign selected elements to a different collector

You can reassign selected elements in a mesh to a different collector. First use the Element Extract command to extract selected elements to a new mesh, and then drag the new mesh to another mesh collector of the same element family and type. The mesh immediately inherits the physical, material, and display properties of the target collector.

For more information, see Extracting elements from a mesh.

Editing a mesh collector

Right-click a mesh collector in the Simulation Navigator and choose Edit. In the Mesh Collector dialog box, you can modify the physical, material, and display properties assigned to the mesh. All modified properties are inherited by the meshed assigned to the mesh collector.

Deleting a mesh collector

Right-click on a mesh collector node in Simulation Navigator and choose Delete. All meshes contained by the collector are deleted as well.
