British Standards
In the catalogs of the British Standards the joints are divided into different classes. For each class of seam weld a corresponding design SN-curve is determined. An example of such a catalog entry is given in the following figure. The classification of the seam welds depends on the following:
The geometrical arrangement and proportions of the detail
The direction of fluctuating stress relative to the detail
The location of possible crack initiation at the detail
Methods of manufacture and detail
