Samcef environment > Simcenter Samcef import
Import overview (Simcenter Samcef)
You can import a model from a Simcenter Samcef .dat plain text bank file, .datx XML file, or a Samcef .sdb binary database.
In the import workflow of a Simcenter Samcef model, a Simcenter Samcef solver tool interprets the selected file and generates an intermediate XML file that contains the model's exported data. The software reads this XML file.
The import also creates new FEM and Simulation files.
Before you import a model from Simcenter Samcef, you can specify several options in the File Import dialog box:
On the File - Analysis tab, you can specify:
The file you want to import.
The units system to use during the import.
The analysis and solution type to create in the Simulation file. You can also let the import automatically select the correct analysis and solution from the imported data. For more information, see Automatically setting the correct analysis and solution (Simcenter Samcef).
On the Options tab:
You can specify how to handle the Samcef .SEL groups.
You can specify how to handle the unsupported functions and materials.
You can define the composite Tolerance Angle used during the import of Samcef laminates.
On the Solver parameters tab, you can specify:
The Samcef installation path.Note: For Simcenter Samcef imports, the software launches the Simcenter Samcef solvers. That's why we recommend that you use the Simcenter Samcef version that is installed with the software. For more information on supported Simcenter Samcef versions, see Solver version support.
Whether you want to remove orphan nodes from the final imported model.
Whether you want to retain temporary files that are generated during the import process. These files can be useful for identifying issues with the input file.
For a list of the Simcenter Samcef entities that are supported by the import, see Supported entities for import (Simcenter Samcef).
For more information on the epilog user-defined text, see Customizing a Simcenter Samcef input file with user defined text.
For more information on the import of Simcenter Samcef laminates, see Importing laminates (Simcenter Samcef).
For more information on the common issues you can face during the import, see Common issues when importing a model (Simcenter Samcef)
Note:
You cannot import Simcenter Samcef superelements.
