Using bushing universal connections in rotor dynamics (SOL 414)

You can use the Bushing universal connection command to create, maintain, and simulate bushings in your Simcenter Nastran rotor dynamic analyses. Like other types of universal connections, the bushing universal connection allows you to create, edit, and realize (mesh) multiple bushings at once. After you create the connection, you can realize (mesh) the connection using either CBUSH + RBE2 spider(s) or CBUSH2 + RBE2 spider(s) element combinations.

(1) CBUSH2 element along rotor axis, (2) RBE2 element

When you mesh the connection using CBUSH2 + RBE2 spider(s) element combination, you can:

  • Define the bushing's stiffness and damping properties with respect to a cylindrical coordinate system. To do so, in the Bushing Connection dialog box, on the General page, set Physicals Definition to Cylindrical.

  • Define the bushing's stiffness and damping in translation and rotation along the R-axis and Z-axis on the Constant Physicals or Dynamic Physicals page of the Bushing Connection dialog box.

  • Define additional parameters for the CBUSH2 element such as eccentricity, damping forces, rupture with damage, mass, and hysteretical damping constants in the Bushing Element dialog box.

The software creates a PBUSH2 property and assigns it to the mesh collector that contains the CBUSH2 elements. The PBUSH2 property also contains the stiffness and damping properties you have defined in the Bushing Connection dialog box.

For more information, see the PBUSH2 bulk entry.
