New Velocity Impact Excitation dialog box

Impact Method
Impact method list The type of impact test to perform.Drop Impact — Simulates an impact on a node in the direction of gravity at the specified velocity or drop height. You can specify either the velocity or the drop height and the software calculates the other value. Velocity Impact — Simulates an impact on a node in the specified direction at the specified constant velocity. The location of impact is at the single-node enforced motion location defined in your solution.
Name
Name A descriptive name for the excitation.
Description A longer description for the excitation.
Impact Parameters
Velocity The velocity at the time of impact. For Drop Impact — The software calculates the Velocity automatically (accounting for the acceleration from gravity) when you specify the Drop Height. Or, you can specify the Velocity and let the software calculate the Drop Height from that value. For Velocity Impact — Enter the constant velocity of the impact.
Drop Height Available only when Drop Impact is selected as the Impact Method. The height from which to drop the model in the impact simulation.
Pulse Duration The duration of the impact pulse. The pulse should be very short, such as 0.001 seconds or shorter.
Time Step Specifies the time step increment for the impact solution. This value cannot be larger than 1/10 of the Pulse Duration.
Start Position The simulation starting point. At Impact — The simulation starts at the time of impact. At Drop — (Available with Drop Impact excitations only) The simulation starts when the part is dropped and the software adds a pre-impact drop duration to the impact simulation. Before Impact — (Available with Constant Velocity Impact excitations only) The software assumes a starting point 10 times the Pulse Duration. In this case, the software assumes the model is moving at the specified Velocity and the initial displacement is zero at the start of the impact. The calculated duration of the pre-impact duration is shown in the dialog box as Drop Duration or Pre-Impact Duration (depending on the type of excitation).Note: The pre-impact duration for either Drop Impact or Constant Velocity Impact excitations is used only to calculate the position of the model at the start of the simulation. After solving for the dynamic response, you can animate the contour plot and visualize the model displacement.
Impact Direction
Direction type list Specifies the method for defining the excitation direction.Nodal Component — Lets you specify the direction component of the impact in terms of the nodal displacement coordinate system for the node on which the enforce motion location was defined. User Defined — Lets you specify the direction vector of the impact. This option is available only if the enforced motion location was solved with all three translational DOFs set to Enforced.A preview arrow appears in the work coordinate system to show you the direction of the excitation.
Nodal Component Available only when Nodal Component is selected.Defines the excitation direction in terms of the nodal direction components that correspond to the solved DOFs in the enforced motion location. For example, if your enforced motion location is enforced in the Z direction, you can define the velocity impact excitation in the Z direction. Components correspond to the displacement CSYS of the constraint mode node (the enforced motion location).
Specify Vector Available only when the User Defined direction type is selected.Lets you specify the (vector) direction for the excitation. For information about the Vector dialog box, see Vector dialog box.
Reverse Direction Reverses the current direction of the excitation.
