DOF sets
You can use a degree of freedom (DOF) set to select a group of nodes and specify the active degrees of freedom for each node. For each node in the set, you can set each degree of freedom to active or inactive.
DOF set defined at nodes
You can use DOF sets:
To define connection degrees of freedom when defining an external superelement. For more information, see Superelement analysis.
To specify active degrees of freedom to be used as connection degrees of freedom in a Mode Set representation. For more information, see Mode sets.
To specify active degrees of freedom to compute stiffness, mass, damping, or loads in a DMIG. For more information, see DMIG as a matrix element.
To set up the correlation solution process. You can create a matching simulation DOF set from test sensors or from the current correlation node map. For more information, see Create a DOF set that match the test sensors. You can create a structural modal analysis solution (SOL 103 Real Eigenvalues) with a reduced mass matrix, using ASET degrees of freedom suitable for calculating the cross-orthogonality metric. For more information, see Create an analysis solution containing the reduced mass matrix.
To set up the pre-test solution process. You can select candidate and required sensor locations and directions using DOF sets. For more information, see Select a candidate DOF set from nodes. You can create a DOF set from pre-test sensor and exciter configuration.
To set up the model update solution process. You create a design optimization solution suitable for updating the model (SOL 200 Model Update) with reduced system and sensitivity matrices. For physical (Guyan) reduction, these are exported as ASET degrees of freedom; for modal reduction, these are exported as USET degrees of freedom.
To support DOF sets imported from a Nastran input file.
When you use assembly FEMs, you can import DOF sets from a component Simulation file into an assembly Simulation file. The software remaps the nodes in the DOF set to the correct nodes in the assembly Simulation file. For more information, see Importing simulation entities.
