UMAT workflow
| Step | Summary | Detailed help topic | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. | For the solver, programmer creates a Simcenter Nastran UMAT subroutine. | The subroutine can include multiple UMAT models. However, the .umatx XML file for the Pre/Post user interface (see step 2) is limited to two UMAT models. Despite this limitation, the subroutine can contain more than two UMAT models, because Simcenter Nastran detects the two applicable material models by the model names in the user-defined material bulk entry in the solver input file. You can manually add the additional models to the input file. | Simcenter Nastran UMAT subroutine |
| 2. | For Pre/Post, programmer creates an XML file that defines the properties needed by the Simcenter Nastran UMAT subroutine. | Create a .umatx XML file that describes the custom properties that appear on the User Models - Simcenter Nastran page in the user interface. | UMAT XML file |
| 3. | For Pre/Post, programmer or site administrator uploads the XML file to the software startup location. | The startup location can be any of the following:UGII_USER_DIR\startupUGII_SITE_DIR\startupUGII_VENDOR_DIR\startup | |
| As an alternative, you can use the UGII_CUSTOM_DIRECTORY_FILE. You may prefer to use it, if the startup directory also contains custom applications. UGII_CUSTOM_DIRECTORY_FILE has the advantage of supporting root directories for multiple applications, and it makes it easy to copy the file that contains a list of root directories for all custom applications from release to release. | User Directories and Environment variables topic in the Programming Tools Help | ||
| 4. | Site MatML Library owner adds the UMAT property values to the MatML Library materials. | Add UMAT property values to Site MatML Library or User MatML Library material definitions in the Material Library Manager dialog box. | Add UMAT property values to MatML Library material definitions (site MatML Library owner) |
| As an alternative, you can define a material with a UMAT model from scratch or a standard library definition, and export it to a MatML Library. You can also define a material with a UMAT model from an integrated third-party library. | Define a material with a UMAT model from scratchDefine a material with a UMAT model from a standard library definitionExport a material with a UMAT model | ||
| 5. | (Optional) Site MatML Library owner defines whether the property is configurable. | Make some material properties configurable by end users.Note: By default, all properties are set to No Configuration Allowed. | Define configurable material properties (site MatML Library owner) |
| 6. | End users access the UMAT model when they create or modify materials. | Users can decide whether they want to use a UMAT model. If configuration is allowed, users can also modify the custom properties of a UMAT model in the Material dialog boxes. | Modify configurable material properties (end user) |
| 7. | End users set prerequisites. | For a solution to use UMAT models, several prerequisites must be met. | Prerequisites for a solution to use a UMAT model |
| 8. | (Optional) End users define user-defined state variables. | Users can use the user-defined state variables to pass their own data between the solver and software. | Define, specify, and plot user-defined state variables |
| 9. | End users define the path to the Simcenter Nastran UMAT subroutine. | Users must set the path to the solver's subroutine in the Solver Parameters dialog. | Submit solution to Simcenter Nastran |
