Pressure Penetration (Abaqus)

When you work with the Abaqus solver, use the Pressure Penetration simulation object to specify pressure penetration loads with surface-based contact.

Defining the surfaces

With the Pressure Penetration simulation object, you define the following:

  • Master and slave surfaces in the contact pair.To specify source (master) and target (slave) surfaces in the pressure penetration definition, you can select an existing Simulation Region or create a new one.

  • Nodes exposed to fluid on the master and slave surfaces.

Contact pair interaction

The Pressure Penetration simulation object requires a contact pair interaction (Surface-to-Surface Contact or Edge-to-Edge Contact) be applied to the same pair of master-slave surfaces. The contact pair interaction can be defined in a previous step or in the same step in which the Pressure Penetration is active.

Associated Abaqus keywords

The Pressure Penetration simulation object corresponds to the Abaqus *PRESSURE PENETRATION keyword. For more information, see *PRESSURE PENETRATION keyword in the Abaqus Keywords Guide.
