Surface Based Coupling dialog box (Abaqus)
| Destination Folder | |
|---|---|
| Simulation Object Container | Specifies the folder in the Simulation Navigator in which the boundary condition will be stored. The list includes the root container and existing folders that you created using the New Folder command. Examples of a root container include Load Container, Constraint Container, and Simulation Object Container. |
| Folder Manager | Displays a hierarchical listing of existing folders. To create a new folder, right-click any level of the hierarchy and choose New Folder. |
| Reference Node | |
| Select Object | Lets you select a node or vertex on the independent face. |
| Stacked Smart Selector Methods | Opens the Smart Selector Methods dialog box where you can specify a progression of smart selection filters. For more information, see Smart Selector Methods dialog box. |
| Surface | |
| Surface | Lets you select the Region that defines the surface on which the coupling nodes are located. You can use either an element- or node-based surface definition to define the region.Select an existing region or click New Region to create a new region. See Region dialog box. |
| Options | |
| Orientation | Lets you specify the coupling constraint with respect to a local coordinate system.Select Existing to use the displacement coordinate system currently defined for the selected node(s) or associated geometry.Select Cartesian, Cylindrical, or Spherical to define a local coordinate system for the coupling constraint. Use the Local CSYS options to create the coordinate system. |
| Influence Radius | Lets you define an optional sphere of influence that the software uses to find coupling nodes in a specific region on the specified Surface. If you define an Influence Radius, the software uses the radius as a search distance from the Reference Node. It applies the coupling constraint to the nodes that lie within that radius. If you do not define an Influence Radius, Abaqus applies the coupling constraint to all the nodes on the Surface. |
| Coupling Type | Controls the type of coupling constraint the software creates.Select *KINEMATIC to create kinematic constraints that eliminate degrees-of-freedom at the coupling nodes. This constrains the motion of the coupling nodes to the rigid body motion of the reference node.Select *DISTRIBUTING to constrain the motion of the coupling nodes to the translation and rotation of the reference node. |
| Coupling Method | Available if you select *DISTRIBUTING from the Definition list.Controls how the software couples the motion of the reference node to the average motion of the coupling nodes.Select Continuum to couple the translation and rotation of the reference node to the average translation of the coupling nodes.Select Structural to couple the translation and rotation of the reference node to the translation and rotation of the coupling nodes. |
| Weighting Method | Available if you select *DISTRIBUTING from the Definition list.Lets you specify an optional weighting method to modify the default weight distribution at the coupling nodes.Select Uniform to specify a uniform weight distribution equal to 1.0. This is the default weighting method.Select Linear to specify a weight distribution that decreases linearly with distance from the reference node.Select Quadratic to specify a quadratic polynomial decreasing weight distribution with distance from the reference node.Select Cubic to specify a cubic polynomial monotonic decreasing weight distribution with distance from the reference node. |
| Degrees of Freedom | |
| DOF1, DOF2, DOF3, DOF4, DOF5, DOF6 | Controls the movement in each degree-of-freedom.Select Fixed to constrain movement in the degree-of-freedom.Select Free to allow movement in the degree-of-freedom. |
| All Free | Allows movement in all degrees-of-freedom. |
| All Fixed | Constrains all degrees-of-freedom. |
