General Contact dialog box (Abaqus)

Type
Available for all analyses except Axisymmetric Structural. The general contact for Axisymmetric Structural analyses is an automatic general contact.
Type Specifies the type of general contact:Automatic General ContactDefines a self-contact for a default unnamed, all-inclusive surface. The default surface contains all exterior element faces. It is the simplest way to define the contact domain.Automatic PairingCreates face pairs automatically using the Create Automatic Face Pairs dialog box. For more information, see Automatic face pairing and Create Automatic Face Pairs dialog box.Surface Pair Contact InclusionDefines the general contact domain by specifying the individual contact surface pairings. One surface in each pair must be an element-based surface or an analytical rigid surface. Self-Contact Surface InclusionDefines self-contact for the selected surface. Surface to Default All-Inclusive Surface Contact InclusionSpecifies that contact should be enforced between the default all-inclusive, automatically generated surface and the selected surface, including self-contact in regions that overlap. For more information, see Including surfaces in general contacts (Abaqus).
Destination Folder
Simulation Object Container Specifies the folder in the Simulation Navigator in which to store the boundary condition. The list includes the root container and existing folders that you created using the New Folder command. Examples of a root container include Load Container, Constraint Container, and Simulation Object Container.
Folder Manager Displays a hierarchical list of existing folders. To create a new folder, right-click any level of the hierarchy and choose New Folder.
Model Object
Select Object Appears when the type is set to Automatic General Contact.Lets you select the model to which to apply the contact.
Stacked Smart Selector Methods Opens the Smart Selector Methods dialog box where you can specify a progression of smart selection filters. For more information, see Smart Selector Methods dialog box.
Contact Domain
Contact Type Appears when the type is set to Automatic General Contact.Specifies the contact domain, or surfaces that interact with one another, which is All-Inclusive Self Contact.
Automatic Face Pair Creation
Face Pairs Appears when the type is set to Automatic Pairing.Opens the Create Automatic Face Pairs dialog box, which enables you to specify face pair generation properties, preview face pairs, and generate face pairs automatically.
Included Surface Pair Contact
First Surface/Second Surface Appear when the type is set to Surface Pair Contact Inclusion.Lets you select the region that defines the contacting surface in the surface pair. Select an existing region or click New Region to create a new region. See Working with reusable regions.
Included Self-Contact Surface
Surface Appears when the type is set to Self-Contact Surface Inclusion.Lets you select the region that defines the contacting surface. Select an existing region or click New Region to create a new region. See Working with reusable regions.
Included Surface
Surface Appears when the type is set to Surface to Default All-Inclusive Surface Contact Inclusion.Lets you select the region that defines the contacting surface. Select an existing region or click New Region to create a new region. See Working with reusable regions.
Contact
Contact Property Specifies a general contact property modeling object.Select a modeling object from the list or click Create Modeling Object to create one. The General Contact Property modeling object defines contact properties for the pairs of surfaces that may contact or interact during the analysis. For more information, see:General Contact Property dialog box (Abaqus)Defining contact properties for general contacts (Abaqus)Mechanical contact properties in the Abaqus Analysis User's Guide*CONTACT PROPERTY ASSIGNMENT in the Abaqus Keywords Reference Guide
Boundary Condition Generation
Associate to Automatic Pair Recipe Appears when the type is set to Automatic Pairing.Specifies whether automatically generated pairs are associated with the automatic pair recipe. The automatic pair recipe is the set of parameters in the Create Automatic Face Pairs dialog box that determine how to compute and group face pairs. When you select the Associate to Automatic Pair Recipe check box, the generated contact pairs appear in the Simulation Navigator with the prefix Auto. If you update the master part, the software recalculates the face pairs and updates the boundary condition. When you clear this check box, the generated contact pairs are not associated with the face pair recipe. If the master model changes, the contact pairs are not updated. These pairs behave the same as manually created pairs.
Card Displays the name of the solver card for the contact.
