Type
Type Controls how the software subdivides the selected elements.Quad to 2 Triangles subdivides the selected quadrilateral element into two triangular elements.Quad to 2 Quads subdivides the selected quadrilateral element into two quadrilateral elements.Quad to 4 Quads subdivides the selected quadrilateral element into four quadrilateral elements.Quad to M by N Quads subdivides the selected quadrilateral element both vertically and horizontally into a matrix of smaller elements.Quad to 3 Quads subdivides the selected quadrilateral element into three quadrilateral elements.Quad to 3 Triangles subdivides the selected quadrilateral element into three triangular elements. Triangle to 4 Triangles subdivides the selected triangular element into four triangular elements.Triangle to 2 Triangles subdivides the selected triangular element into two triangular elements.Split by Line uses a line you specify to help determine where and how to split the element. However, the split may not occur exactly along the line. For more information, see Splitting shell elements.
Split Criteria
Based on Controls the criteria the software uses to determine whether to divide an element. The options available in the Based on list depend on the option you select from the Type list.First Element Split Pattern divides elements in a free (unstructured) mesh based on the location of the first edge of the first element you select.Element Connectivity divides elements in a mapped (structured) mesh based on their connectivity.Interactive Location lets you interactively preview possible split patterns as you move your mouse over the selected element.Element Quality divides quadrilateral elements whose warp values exceed a specified warp threshold value.Shortest Diagonal divides quadrilateral elements along the length of the element's shortest diagonal.
Flip Split Line Reverses the direction of the line along which the software splits the element.
Split Into Lets you specify the number of new quadrilateral elements to create in the vertical and horizontal directions.
Elements
Select Elements Lets you select the elements to split.
Element Labels Lets you add elements to the selection.Use a space or comma to separate your entries.Use a colon or a dash to add a range of element labels. For example, enter 1:10 or 1-10 to add all the element labels from 1 to 10.Use colons to add an incremented range of element labels. For example, enter:1:9:2 to add element labels 1, 3, 5, 7, 9.1:10:2 to add element labels 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 10.10:1:-2 to add element labels 10, 8, 6, 4, 2, 1.Press enter or click Select to add your entries. To edit your selection, click Edit Element Selection .
Define Split Line
Specify Point Available if you select Split by Line from the Type list.Lets you select the two end points to define the line along which to split the elements. See Point dialog box for more information.
Duplicate Node Creation
Merge New Nodes Controls whether the software merges any new nodes that it creates when dividing elements. If you clear the Merge New Nodes check box, the software retains all new nodes created by the Split Shell command.Note: If you clear the Merge New Nodes check box, you should use the Nodes option in the Model Check dialog box to search for duplicate nodes before you solve your model.
