Edit post view legends

Set legend extremes

Specify the scale applied to the levels in the color bar.

  1. Right-click a legend in a post view and choose Extremes.

  2. Choose from: Result — Scales the color bar across the complete range of values for the selected result for the entire model.Displayed — Scales the color bar only across the range of values for the selected result for the visible model components.

Set the legend scale

Specify how the color bar scales the colors across the range of values. More options are available in the Legend dialog box.

  1. Right-click a legend in a post view and choose Scale.

  2. Choose from Automatic, Linear, and Logarithmic.

Set the color levels

Specify the number of color levels for the color bar. Type a value between 2 and 50 and press Enter.

  1. Right-click a legend in a post view and choose Scale.

  2. Type a value between 2 and 50 and press Enter.

Set all the legend display options

  1. Change the color display to contour plot to access the legend editing in the Edit Post View dialog box.

  2. To display the Legend dialog box to let you edit a legend, do one of the following:Double-click the legend color bar or header. Right-click the legend color bar or header and choose Edit.

  3. In the Header group, from the Display list, select one of the following:To display no header, select None.To automatically generate the header text based on your solution, select Default.The software displays the current Simulation, solution, step or subcase, result and result component, and minimum and maximum, values, units, coordinate system, and deformation used.To specify the information to include, select Customized.For more information, see Customizing the post view legend.

  4. Set up the color bar. To turn on the display of the color bar, select the Display Color Bar check box. From the Legend Extremes list, set how the color bar scales the colors across the range of values. To scale the color bar across the complete range of values for the selected result for the entire model, select Result.To scale the color bar only across the range of values for the selected result for the visible model components, select Displayed.To scale the color across a specified range of values, select Specified, and then enter the minimum and maximum values in the Min and Max boxes.To scale the color bar across the complete range of values for all post views overlaid in the current viewport, select Combined Viewport Result.To scale the color bar across the displayed range of values for all post views overlaid in the current viewport, select Combined Viewport Displayed.From the Spacing list, set how the color bar automatically scales the colors across the range of values. For information about customizing the color bar, see Customizing the post view legend.To equally space the range of colors across a specified number of levels, select Equally Spaced and type the number of levels in the Levels box (a value between 2 and 50).To specify a minimum number of levels across which the software scales the colors and then rounds the value, select Round Off and type the minimum number of levels in the Minimum Number of Levels box (a value between 2 and 50).To specify the number of levels and the range of values per level, select Level Increment and type the maximum number of levels in the Maximum Number of Levels box (a value between 2 and 50) and the range of values per level in the Increment Per Level box. Equally spacedRound offLevel incrementIn the Color Control group, set the spectrum to use and select the Invert Spectrum check box to invert that spectrum. From the Overflow and Underflow lists, select one of the following for displaying underflow and overflow results. Overflow results have values above the maximum specified range. Underflow results have values below the minimum specified range.None — Overflow or underflow results are not marked.Shaded — Renders overflow or underflow results as opaque faces using the specified color.Click the color palette to modify the specified color.Translucent — Renders overflow or underflow results as translucent faces using the specified color.Click the color palette to modify the specified color.Clipped — Hides overflow or underflow results.

  5. In the Text group, set the look of the text in the legend header and color bar.To select the format for the text values in the color bar, select an option from the Format list.To set the scale factor for the text in the header and color bar, select the Overwrite Global Font check box and then in the Scale Factor box, type a scale factor.

  6. In the Box group, choose to define boxes around the legend text and color bar. To not display boxes, clear the Border and Fill check boxes.To draw a border around the boxes, select the Border check box. The border color is the same color as the legend font color. To fill the boxes, select the Fill check box and click the color box to open the Color dialog box to specify the color. Select the Translucent check box to specify translucency. Note: If translucency is not enabled in the Visualization Preferences dialog box, the software turns it on.

  7. Click OK.
