Set up an orbital heating simulation

To model an orbital heating you must have one or more radiation simulation objects available to model all necessary enclosures. For those enclosures that have a view to the environment, the Include Radiative Environment must be selected.

  1. Choose Home tab→Loads and Conditions group→Orbital Heating .

  2. In the Orbital Heating dialog box, from the Type list, select Illuminate All Elements or Illuminated Selected Elements. If you choose to illuminate selected elements, you select the top and bottom sides manually. The Illuminated Selected Elements option can significantly save solving time.

  3. In the Orbit Selection group, do one of the following:Click Create Modeling Object to create a new Orbit modeling object. From the Orbit and Attitude Parameters list, select an existing model.

  4. (Optional) In the Parameters group, from the Calculation Method list, select a ray tracing method.

  5. (Optional) From the Element Subdivision list, choose a value.

  6. Click OK.

  7. Right-click the Solution node, and select Edit.

  8. On the Transient Setup page, in the Solution Time Interval group, set the End Time to control the maximum number of orbits.

  9. Click OK.
