Contact Card A Card B (LS-DYNA) dialog box

Card A tab options

Soft constraint option (SOFT) Controls the soft constraint option that LS-DYNA uses.Select (0) Penalty formulation to use the penalty formulation.Select (1) Soft constraint formulation to use the soft constraint formulation.Select (2) Segment-based contact to use segment-based contact.
Scale factor for constraint forces (SOFSCL) Specifies the scale factor for constraint forces of the soft constraint option.
Load curve ID defining airbag thickness (LCIDAB) Specifies the load curve ID for defining airbag thickness as a function of time for type a13 contact.
Maximum parametric coordinate in segment search (MAXPAR) Specifies the maximum parametric coordinate in the segment search. This factor allows for an increase in the size of segments, which may be useful at sharp corners.
Segment-based contact options (SBOPT) Specifies the segment-based contact options.
Search depth in automatic contact (DEPTH) Specifies the search depth that LS-DYNA should use in automatic contact analyses. A value of 1 is accurate for most crash applications and is less computationally expensive. By default, LS-DYNA sets this value to 2.
Number of cycles between bucket sorts (BSORT) Specifies the number of cycles between bucket sorts.
Number of cycles between contact force update (FRCFRQ) Specifies the number of cycles between contact force updates for penalty contact formulations.

Card B tab options

Maximum penetration distance for old type contact (PENMAX) For contact types 3, 4, 8, 9, and 10, controls the maximum penetration distance.
Thickness option for contact type 3, 5, 10 (THKOPT) Controls how thickness offsets are handled for contact types 3, 5, and 10.Select (0) Default taken from control card to take the default value from the *CONTACT_CONTROL card.Select Thickness offsets are included to include the thickness offset.Select Thickness offsets are not included to exclude the thickness offset.
Consider shell thickness (SHLTHK) If you select Thickness offsets are included from the Thickness option for contact type 3, 5, 10 (THKOPT) list, Select (0) No if you do not want to consider the shell thickness.Select (1) Yes, but rigid bodies are excluded if you want to consider shell thickness but exclude the rigid bodies.Select (2) Yes, including rigid bodies if you want to consider shell thickness, including rigid bodies.
Disable shooting node logic (SNLOG) Disables the shooting node logic in thickness offset contact. When the shooting node logic is enabled, in the first cycle in which a slave node penetrates a master segment, LS-DYNA moves that node back to the master surface without applying any contact force.
Symmetry plane option (ISYM) Controls the handling of models defined with symmetry. This option is important to retain correct boundary conditions in models with symmetry.
Segment searching option (I2D3D) Controls the order in which LS-DYNA searches elements to locate segments.Select (0) Search 2D elements before 3D elements to search shell elements first and then solid elements.Select (1) Search 3D elements before 2D elements to search solid elements first and then shell elements.
Optional solid element thickness (SLDTHK) Specifies an optional thickness value for solid elements. If you specify a non-zero, positive value, that value activates the contact thickness offsets in the contact algorithms where offsets apply. The contact treatment will then be equivalent to the case where null shell elements are used to cover the brick elements.
Optional solid element stiffness (SLDSTF) Specifies an optional stiffness value for solid elements. If you specify a non-zero, positive value, that value overrides the bulk modulus specified for the material assigned to the solid element.
