Averaging scenario
The Averaging scenario is a general post-processing scenario that you can use to obtain an average sound pressure level (SPL) for selected subcases, RPMs (from rotating machinery), orders, nodes, or degrees of freedom (DOFs) when they are available in the data source. You can visualize the result in a contour or function plot. When the data source contains only:
RPM data, you can visualize the result in a Function Plot - Waterfall or Contour Plot - Waterfall.
Order cut data, you can visualize the result in a Function Plot - Order Cut or Contour Plot - Order Cut.
Additionally, you can choose an averaging type for the SPL calculation.
The subcases can originate from splitting transient data mapped on a structure for time segmentation. Also, for higher accuracy with subcase averaging between subcase results, the software:
Uses an interpolation method that considers the union of frequencies from all subcases. This eliminates the risk of subsampling only one subcase.
Does not extrapolate a selected frequency in the union of all subcase frequency values. The software averages only the subcases for which this frequency is valid.
Parameters
The following table lists the parameters available for defining Averaging post-processing scenarios. They appear in the Parameters node of the Scenario Based Data-Visualization Navigator.
| Parameter | Description |
|---|---|
| Averaging type | Appears in the editor subpanel.Specifies the formulation used for the average sound pressure level (SPL) calculation for the selected subcases, RPMs, orders, nodes, or DOFs. The default formulation type is:No AverageExcludes the selected type from averaging.**Amplitude-Phase (Linear)****Maximum (Peak-Hold)****RMS (Energy)****Real-Imaginary (Linear)**RSS (root of sum of squares)For each frequency or time step, the software computes the square root of the sum of squares (SRSS) of the selected values for subcases, RPMs, orders, nodes, or DOFs. |
| Average All Subcases | Appears when the data source contains subcases.Calculates and plots an average SPL over all subcases. |
| Keep Individual Subcases | Available when Definition is set to Function Plot.Calculates and plots an average SPL for each individual subcase.Note: This option can help you to detect unrealistic peaks or valleys in the plot. An unrealistic peak or valley may originate from loadings of a few individual subcases. |
