Fan Speed Controller

Create a Fan Speed Controller type modeling object to control the speed of certain types of Flow Boundary Condition simulation objects based on the temperature of a sensor. You can use a Fan Speed Controller in conjunction with the following types of Flow Boundary Condition simulation object:

  • Inlet Flow

  • Outlet Flow

  • Internal Fan

  • Recirculation Loop

The solver checks the temperature of selected elements at each iteration, and uses this temperature value to set the speed of the fan. If the temperature value falls below the lower limit of the fan's designed temperature range, the solver uses the lower temperature limit to calculate the speed of the fan. Similarly, if the temperature value goes over the upper limit of the fan's designed temperature range, the solver uses the upper temperature limit to calculate the speed of the fan. In each of these two cases, a warning message indicates that the fan operates at a speed corresponding to its lower or upper designed temperature limit because the sensor is sensing a temperature that is below or over the fan's designed range of temperatures.

For selecting the elements to locate the temperature sensor, you can select either a predefined group of the elements or the elements' associated geometry.
