Mapping constraint

Video: Use zones and target sets in mapping

Use the Mapping constraint to restrict the mapping algorithm when it searches for the nearest node or element. The Mapping constraint defines a region (3 and 4) of a source thermal or flow model (1) that contains the results that you want to map to a region (5 and 6) of the target model (2), or that you want to exclude from the mapping process. This constraint provides additional manual control to ensure correct mapping, and reduces mapping time by eliminating unnecessary calculations on very large models.

If you do not define a Mapping constraint in the source model, the solver maps results from all elements in the source model to elements in the target model.

The Type option that you select determines the data to map or to exclude, and whether or not you need to create a matching constraint in the target model.

Thermal Association Zone

Maps temperature results from the selected region in the source model to a region defined by a matching Thermal Target Zone constraint in the target model.

Transverse Gradient Zone

Maps the temperature gradient between two sets of elements in two closely spaced parallel regions in the source model or from multi-layer shell elements in the source model to a shell region defined by a matching Transverse Gradient Target Zone constraint in the target model.

Axisymmetry Association Zone

Maps temperature results from the selected axisymmetric region in the source model to a non-axisymmetric region defined by a matching Axisymmetry Target Zone constraint in the target model.

The source model must be a non-axisymmetric thermal model that can contain both non-axisymmetric and axisymmetric meshes. The axisymmetric elements are stored in separate mesh collectors that contain axisymmetric meshes.

You can select both axisymmetric and non-axisymmetric elements for the axisymmetric association zone. The non-axisymmetric elements that you select can be 0D, 1D, or 2D elements.

When you select non-axisymmetric elements, you must specify the axis of revolution. The axis of revolution must be one of the three orthogonal directions of the absolute coordinate system. When you select axisymmetric elements, the software gets the axis of revolution from the axisymmetric mesh collectors.

Rotational Periodicity Association Zone

Maps temperatures of solid non-axisymmetric elements from a cylindrical periodic sector in the source model to the complete cylindrical part defined by a matching Rotational Periodicity Target Zone constraint in the target model.

To define the periodicity, you specify the axis of revolution and the number of segments to which the periodic sector is copied in order for the software to reconstruct the target model.

Exclude Elements

Excludes temperature results on the selected region from the mapping process.

Maps flow forces results in the selected region to a region defined by a matching Flow Target Zone constraint in the target model.
