Durability
Supported solvers and solutions for durability analysis
The durability solver computes strength and fatigue results from the stress or strain results of structural solutions. The durability event type that you create depends on the structural solution.
Note:
You should request strain results for strain based fatigue life criteria and stress results for stress based fatigue life criteria.
The durability solver recovers stress or strain values from the results that are stored at the following locations:
Nodes on elements — For each element, the results are located at the nodes for that element. Thus a node can have multiple results, one for each element that it belongs to.
Element centers
Nodes — Only one result is stored at each node in the mesh. The stored nodal result is the average of the nodes on elements values.
Both linear and nonlinear results are supported. To process nonlinear results, you have to select the Use Non-Linear Results check box in the solve options durability object.
Static event solution support
A static event references stress or strain results from the following solutions:
MSC Nastran: SOL 101 Linear Statics — General Constraints and SOL 101 Linear Statics — Subcase Constraints
ANSYS: Linear Statics
Abaqus: Static Perturbation
Simcenter Nastran: SOL 101 Linear Statics — General ConstraintsSOL 101 Linear Statics — Subcase ConstraintsSOL 101 SuperelementSOL 101 AdaptiveSOL 106 Nonlinear Statics — Global ConstraintsSOL 106 Nonlinear Statics — Subcase ConstraintsSOL 129 Nonlinear Transient ResponseSOL 401 Multi-Step NonlinearSOL 601,106 Advanced Nonlinear StaticsSOL 601,129 Advanced Nonlinear TransientSOL 701 Explicit Advanced Nonlinear Analysis
Transient event solution support
A transient event references stress or strain results from the Response Dynamics solution process and the following Simcenter Nastran solutions:
SOL 103 Flexible Body
SOL 106 Nonlinear Statics — Global Constraints
SOL 106 Nonlinear Statics — Subcase Constraints
SOL 109 Direct Transient Response
SOL 112 Modal Transient Response
SOL 129 Nonlinear Transient Response
SOL 401 Multi-Step Nonlinear
SOL 601,106 Advanced Nonlinear Statics
SOL 601,129 Advanced Nonlinear Transient
SOL 701 Explicit Advanced Nonlinear Analysis
Random event solution support
A random durability event references a Response Dynamics solution process and its random event.
Requesting stress or strain results
Depending on the solver type, you request stress or strain results as follows:
For Nastran solutions, you specify the Output Request modeling object on the Case Control page in the Solution dialog box.
For ANSYS solutions, you specify stress or strain on the Output Controls tab in the Solution dialog box.
For Abaqus solutions, you specify the Output Request modeling object on the Output page in the Solution Step dialog box.
Imported results
You can create a static or transient event in a Durability solution process that references imported solution results.
The imported solution must satisfy the following conditions:
The imported solution must have results for a model that matches the model that is in the loaded Simulation file.
The imported results must contain static or transient stresses or strains.
You must be able to post process the imported results.
Laminate support
Durability supports stress and strain results from models with defined laminate physical property tables. The software calculates durability results from the top and bottom ply stress or strain results.
Durability does not support the following laminates:
Laminates that have plies with material type set to Ply Materials.
Laminates that are defined by using global layups.
Laminates that are defined by using the solid laminate physical property table.
