Create a 2D graph of a table field

  1. In the Simulation Navigator, expand the Fields node.

  2. Right-click the table field that you want to graph and choose Plot(XY).If the field has two or more independent variables, the software displays the Field Function Plot dialog box. Continue with Step 3.If the field has one independent variable, the software displays the Viewport dialog box. Skip to Step 6.

  3. In the Field Function Plot dialog box, in the Abscissa group, from the Variable list, select the independent variable that you want to assign to the horizontal axis of the graph. For example, if the table field defines pressure as a function of Cartesian coordinates, you select either the X-coordinate, Y-coordinate, or Z-coordinate. The independent variables that you do not assign to the horizontal axis are referred to as control variables. To create the graph, you must specify numerical values for each control variable.

  4. If applicable, in the Control Variables group, in the control variable boxes, type the values for the control variables.

  5. Click OK.The Viewport dialog box appears.

  6. Do one of the following:To create the graph in the graphics window, click in the graphics window. To create the graph in a new viewport, click .By default, the graph contains the full range of the graphed independent variable.

  7. To overlay the graph of another field, in the Simulation Navigator, right-click the field to overlay and choose Overlay(XY).To overlay the graphs of fields, the fields must have the same independent and dependent domains. For example, you can overlay the graph of a force vs. frequency field over the graph of another force vs. frequency field, but you cannot overlay the graph of a force vs. frequency field over the graph of a displacement vs. frequency field. You can overlay up to 50 fields.

  8. (Optional) To format the graph, double-click the object that you want to edit. You can edit objects such as the graph title, axis labels, and axis ranges, among others.
