Mass distribution for CONM2 elements

You can use the Distribute Mass Type list in the Mesh Associated Data dialog box to control how the software applies mass to Nastran CONM2 elements..

  • To apply the specified mass to each CONM2 element in the mesh, select Total Per Element.

  • To apply the specified mass as a total value that is distributed among all CONM2 elements in the mesh, select Total for Mesh, Equal Distribution. The software divides the mass value specified by the total number of CONM2 elements in the mesh. It then applies that value to each CONM2 element.

  • To apply the specified mass with a distribution that is weighted to apply more mass to nodes related to larger element faces or to longer element edges, select Total for Mesh, Weighted Distribution. You can use this option when the CONM2 elements are associated with an underlying mesh. The software uses both an area-weighted and a length-weighted distribution method to compute how to apply the mass value to the nodes. The sum of the mass of each CONM2 element is equal to the Mass value specified in the Mesh Associated Data dialog box.
