Randomly oriented short fiber reinforced ply
For this type of ply, it is assumed that the fibers are much longer than the thickness of the ply. This implies that the fibers lie in the plane of the ply and that no reinforcement is provided in the thickness direction. A laminate analogy is also used for the calculations of the properties of randomly oriented short fiber reinforced ply. This approach is proposed in [5]. In this case, laminates that present an increasing number of plies are built and their engineering properties are calculated. The approach is assumed to have converged when the number of plies has reached 512, or either one of the following conditions is satisfied:
Each laminate is symmetric and balanced. It includes plies that are at 0 and 90º. The other ply angles are such that the 0 to 90º range is uniformly covered.
