Controlling the number of layers across the width of adhesive connections
When you generate adhesive elements from the Connection Manager dialog box, you can use the Layers per Width option in the Adhesive Element dialog box to generate multiple layers of solid elements along the width of the connection. Creating layers of solid elements along the width of the connection allows you to more accurately model the longitudinal shearing behavior of the adhesive.
The software uses the Layers per Width option together with the specified Width value for the connection (in the Physicals tab in the Adhesive Connection dialog box) to determine the size and number of layers to create.
Select Number of Layers to specify the number of rows of solid elements to create across the width of the adhesive. The software divides the Width value by the Number of Layers value to determine the size of each layer of elements. For example, if you specify a Width value of 7mm and a Number of Layers value of 2, the software creates two layers of solid elements that each have a width of 3.5mm for the adhesive.
Select Layer Size to specify the size of the solid elements to create. The software divides the Layer Size value that you specify by the Width value to determine the number of layers of elements to create. If the result is a real number, the software uses the integer as the total number of layers to generate. The software adjusts the Layer Size value to accommodate the width of the connection and issues an information message that displays the adjusted value. For example, if you specify a Width value of 7mm and a Layer Size value of 1.5mm, the software computes 7mm/1.5mm = 4.666666mm. The software then creates 4 layers of solid elements that each have a width of 1.75mm for the adhesive.Note: If the Width/Layer Size value is ≤2, then the software creates a single layer of solid elements.
Customer defaults for adhesive connections
You can use customer defaults to specify the default settings for the options that control how the software defines and realizes the connection, such as the Layers per Width option. These default values control:
The default values for the options in the Adhesive Element and Bolt Element dialog boxes.
The values that the software uses for these options when you use the Automatic Connection Elements command to automatically generate the adhesive or bolt connection elements.
