Creating table fields from results
You can create a table field from post-processed results. When you do so, the displayed result determines the dependent domain of the table field. The options for the independent domain of the table field depends on the type of result that is displayed as follows:
If the result displayed in the post view is a nodal result, you can specify the independent domain to be either nodal coordinates or node IDs.
If the result displayed in the post view is a elemental result, the independent domain is the element IDs.
If the result displayed in the post view is a element-nodal result, you can specify the independent domain to be either nodal coordinates, node IDs, or node ID and element ID combinations.
When you create a table field from post-processed results, you can do the following:
Specify how the software calculates the lookup value for the field when the value for the independent domain lies outside the range defined by the tabular data. For more information, see Lookup options for fields created from results.
Limit the spatial range and, if applicable, non-spatial range of the independent domain. For more information, see Specifying the range of fields created from results.
Specify how duplicate data is handled. For more information, see Duplicate data.
Because you can create table fields from post-processed results, the use cases for table fields and reference fields often overlap. To help you determine whether to use a table field or a reference field, see Reference fields vs. table fields.
