Isotropic material properties for 2D and 3D elements

The following table shows which properties are required by Laminate Composites and which values are assumed for undefined optional properties.

Isotropic Property Required / Optional If undefined
Mass Density (RHO) Required
Mechanical page
Young's Modulus (E) Two of these three properties are required. The third property is computed using the following relationship: G = E/(2(1+ν))
Poisson's Ratio (NU), ν
Shear Modulus (G)
Strength page
Tsai-Wu Interaction Coefficient (F12) Optional Set to 0.0.
Stress Limits group
Tension (ST) Optional Computed using the strain limit values, if defined.Set to 0.0.
Compression (SC)
Shear (SS)
Strain Limits group
Tension (XT) Optional Computed using the stress limit values, if defined.Set to 0.0.
Compression (XC)
Shear (XS)
Thermal page
Temperature (TREF) Optional Overridden by the laminate Reference Temperature, if defined.
Thermal Expansion Coefficient (A) Optional Set to steel: 1.18e-5 m/m/°C
Thermal Conductivity (K) Optional Set to steel: 45 J/°K/m/sec
