Create a design variable for a design sensitivity analysis

The following procedure creates a design variable and adds it to an existing solution. To create a design variable without adding it to a solution, use the Modeling Objects command.

  1. In the Simulation Navigator, under an active design sensitivity analysis (DSA) solution, right-click the Design Variables node. Then from the New Design Variables menu, choose one of the following:Design Variable - PropertyDesign Variable - Composite PropertyDesign Variable - Material****Design Variable - Connectivity

  2. In the Name box, type a unique name for the design variable, or use the default name.

  3. In the Label box, type a unique integer for the modeling object, or use the provided one.The dialog box automatically displays the next available modeling object number. However, you might want to change this if you use a particular series of numbers to identify certain types of modeling objects.

  4. (Optional) In the Description box, type a description of the design variable. You can also click Description to open the Description dialog box. This lets you see more of the text that you type, as well as cut, copy, or paste text.

  5. Complete the dialog box.The options that appear vary, depending on the type of design variable you are creating. For more information, see Design Variable dialog box.

  6. Click OK.
