Examples of defining general contact interactions (Abaqus)
Example: Contact inclusions and property assignments
In this example of an Abaqus Structural analysis, a model contains three General Contact simulation objects, each specifying the surfaces to include.
Each General Contact simulation object defines unique contact properties through General Contact Property modeling objects, which in turn define the properties through three Surface Interaction modeling objects.
| General contact | Surfaces | Contact properties | Surface interaction |
|---|---|---|---|
| General Contact1 | Surface pair Region1 and Region2 | General Contact Property1 | Surface Interaction1 |
| General Contact2 | Self-contact of surface Region3 | General Contact Property2 | Surface Interaction2 |
| General Contact3 | Contact between surface Region4 and the Default All-Inclusive Surface | General Contact Property3 | Surface Interaction3 |
The model also assigns unique contact properties to the general contact domain and to a set of surfaces using two Contact Assignment modeling objects.
| Contact Assignment modeling object | Surfaces | Surface interaction |
|---|---|---|
| Contact Property Assignment1 | General contact domain | Surface Interaction1 |
| Contact Property Assignment2 | Surfaces Region5 and Region6 | Surface Interaction3 |
The example uses the Contact Property Assignment option on the Solution Control page of the Solution dialog box to create the objects and the Modeling Objects Manager to specify the assignment of the properties during the Simulation.
Example: Defining both general contacts and contact pairs in the same simulation
You can model contact using both the general contact and the contact pair methods in the same model and share modeling objects, such as a Surface Interaction modeling object.
In this example, a General Contact simulation object models the contact between Region7 and Region8, and a Surface-to-Surface simulation object models the contact between Region9 and Region10. Both interactions define their contact properties using the same Simulation Interaction modeling object, Surface Interaction5.
| General contact | Surfaces | Contact properties | Surface interaction |
|---|---|---|---|
| General Contact7 | Surface pair Region7 and Region8 | General Contact Property1 | Surface Interaction5 |
| Surface to Surface2 | Surface pair Region9 and Region10 | General Contact Property2 | Surface Interaction5 |
