Simply supported constraint
When you apply a simply supported constraint, five degrees of freedom (DOF) are free, and the Z axis is fixed. You can apply a simply supported constraint using:
A vector to show the supported direction. You can apply a directed simply supported constraint to geometry or nodes.
A normal to the selected faces. Multiple local coordinate systems are defined (one at each node), with the Z axis oriented along the evaluated vector. You can apply a face normal simply supported constraint to polygon faces, element faces, or an entire mesh.
A normal to the selected edges, tangent to the neighboring faces. Multiple local coordinate systems are defined (one at each node), with the Z axis oriented along the evaluated vector. You can apply an edge normal simply supported constraint to polygon edges or element edges.
Note:
When you define a simply supported constraint on geometry, a local coordinate system is created and applied to the underlying nodes. If local coordinate systems already exist at these nodes, the constraint's coordinate system may overwrite them. For example, if you define a constraint on a location where spring elements are defined, the constraint's coordinate system may overwrite the spring element definitions.
