Define normal transient initial conditions (Abaqus)
The Normal type lets you select element or geometry faces to define an initial velocity normal to that surface.
Choose Home tab→Loads and Conditions group→Constraint Type→Initial Conditions .
In the Transient Initial Conditions dialog box, from the type list, select Velocity - Normal.
In the Model Objects group, click Select Object and select the curve, point, mesh point, polygon face/edge, or element to apply the initial conditions to.
In the Magnitudes group, define the Initial Velocity as constant values or expressions. For more information, see Expressions. For example, type an initial velocity of 2.5 mm/sec to apply to Nodes 3761 through 3765 in a direction normal to the element faces selected. The software writes the velocity with respect to the global coordinate system.
Click OK.
